To the Editor:
I have never written a letter to the editor, but I feel the need to do so now. I oppose the tax proposal being advanced by the Union Parish Police Jury. My concern is whether we can trust the people responsible for spending the money. In particular, I lack confidence in the five male jurors who usually vote together.
I am a neighbor of Nathan Pilgreen. The only property separating our land belongs to an out-of-parish family that leases it to him for hunting. That property has a small corner bordering the approximately one-mile road leading from a fork to my home and my son’s home. My family owns both sides of that road except for that small frontage.
The corner bordering our road has never been used to access the hunting property. The other fork runs through the leased property and continues to Mr. Pilgreen’s house, providing approximately two miles of access. Portions of that access are within a few feet of the road leading to our homes.
