James Lucian “Jimmy” Long

Funeral Services for James Lucian “Jimmy” Long of Farmerville, LA will be held Sunday, January 21 at 2:30 PM at the First Baptist Church of Farmerville. Visitation will precede the service beginning at 1:30. The service will be under the direction of Kilpatrick’s Funeral Home and be officiated by Justice Jay B McCallum and Kurt Auger.

Jimmy was born May 29, 1946, to Jake and Marjorie Long and grew up in Farmerville. He graduated from Farmerville High School in 1964 and attended Louisiana Tech University. Jimmy married Phyllis Taunton and they had two daughters Rene’ and Dori. Jimmy worked alongside his father in multiple businesses including Long Motor Company and Union Seeding and Sodding. He served as the Mayor of Farmerville from 1981-1984, as Louisiana State Representative from 1984-1988, and was the State Commissioner of LP Gas before going to work for Blue Cross and Blue Shield as a successful Insurance Agent in both Baton Rouge and Shreveport.

After retiring in 2019, Jimmy fulfilled his dream of “coming home” to Farmerville. Jimmy was an avid fisherman and sports fan and was known as a fun loving and comical guy who loved people and enjoyed life. Even with his mental decline due to Alzheimer Disease, Jimmy never lost his love for others or his playful spirit. Jimmy went to be with the Lord and to be reunited with his precious daughter, Dori on January 17 at the age of 77.

Jimmy was preceded in death by his parents, Jake and Marjorie Copeland Long; daughter, Dori Long Weaver; and brothers in law, Dr. Ralph Cooper and Chuck Acurio.

Jimmy is survived by his wife of 57 years, Phyllis Taunton Long; daughter, Rene’ Long Auger (Kurt); grandchildren, Magen Auger Keys (Cody), Jake Auger (Jenny) and Brooks Auger. He is also survived by great grandchildren Piper and Deacon Keys and Brooklynn Auger, as well as sisters Jeanette Long Cooper Wilbanks (Johnny) and Patti Long Acurio.

Jimmy will be buried alongside his parents in the Farmerville Cemetery in the neighborhood where he grew up. Pallbearers will be Jake Auger, Brooks Auger, Cody Keys, Dr. Clark Cooper, Clint Cooper and Kendall Cooper.

The family would like to thank the staff at The Arbor Rose Assisted Living and The Arbor Lake Nursing Home, as well as Jeanette Ross for the love and care shown to Jimmy over the past months.
