Gov. Landry wants a ban on diesel  exports. Industry leaders aren’t happy.

 WASHINGTON – Gov. Jeff Landry is calling for a ban on exports of diesel fuel, saying it’s a way to lower historically high prices, but is facing pushback from oil industry leaders who say that idea could actually drive prices up. 

Joining Republican candidates, especially those representing agricultural districts, who have stepped up the pressure because of surging prices, Landry on Thursday night wrote on social media that he favored banning the export of diesel fuel for 90 days in order to build up reserves and bring down the price of the fuel that farmers, truckers and Northern homeowners rely. 

Prices rose about 40 cents per gallon last week alone to a national average price Monday of $6.51 per gallon, according to AAA. On this day last year, the average price nationally was $3.69 per gallon. The reason is because of the pressures put on by the wars in Ukraine and Iran.
