Funeral services for Mr. George Luther Cothran, age 83 of Farmerville, LA, was held at 2:00 PM, Monday, February 12, 2024 at Crestview Baptist Church with Bro. Wayne Whiteside officiating. Interment followed at Beulah Cemetery under the direction of Farrar Funeral Home.
Mr. George was a man of many talents. He worked in the pipeline, logging, electrician, wood work, and in law enforcement. He began his law enforcement career in the early 1970’s for the Town of Farmerville and served until his retirement in 1996 after he completed his fourth term as Chie of Police. Mr. George was loved by his employees and the citizens of Farmerville and highly respected. He often opted out of a uniform and was found wearing his trademark denim overalls and driving his personal truck so other officers could use his vehicle when needed.
After his retirement from law enforcement, Mr. George stayed deeply involved in parish issues and loved speaking his mind every chance he was given. He was never one to mince his words and made sure his view and opinion was heard. Mr. George loved his family and friends and will be dearly missed.
Mr. George was preceded in death by his parents, Hardie Cothran and Jean Howe; brother, Homer Howe; and sister, Barbara Cothran.
He is survived by his wife of 44 years, Mary Ann Cothran; daughter, Tempest Bryan (Jeff); four grandchildren, Trisha Haydell (Joe), Jeffrey Bryan (Anna), Jessica Lanham (Robbie), and Jared Bryan; eight great grandchildren; sister, Pat Chapman; sister-in-law, Linda Howe and Lora Brantley; brother-in-law, Tommy Futch (Angie); nephews, Wade Brantley (Katie) and Garrett Futch; niece, Noelle Moore (Vincent); and numerous family members and friends.
Serving as pallbearers were Garrett Futch, Wade Brantley, Will Harper, Matt Barnes, Ben Thomas, and Billy Jung.
Visitation was held from 12:30 PM to 2:00 PM, prior to the service, Monday, February 12, 2024 at Crestview Baptist Church.
