Phillip Ellis Brings the Experience and Community Understanding This Court Needs

The Third Judicial District serves two distinct parishes, Lincoln and Union. Its judges must understand the people and communities of both while administering the same law fairly to everyone.

The Gazette believes Phillip Ellis is the best choice for the Division B judgeship. His professional experience and longstanding connections across the district provide a strong foundation for service on the bench.

Ellis is the only candidate in this race with roots in Union Parish. Raised in Bernice, where his grandfather operated Bernice Pharmacy, he has maintained those connections through Weldon Baptist Church and his work in Union Parish criminal court. His Union Parish upbringing, together with his personal and professional connections in Lincoln Parish, gives him a valuable understanding of both communities this court serves.

Knowing a community involves more than recognizing its roads and place names. It means understanding its institutions, livelihoods, family relationships and the practical circumstances that bring people into court. That understanding can help a judge listen intelligently, ask useful questions and appreciate the consequences of a ruling.
