Standing Tall in the Faith – II Corinthians 12:11-15
We live in a world driven by being the best and having the most; getting mine and wanting more. A world fascinated by fame, fortune, wealth and power.
Paul had a formal education rooted in religious scholarship and strict adherence to Jewish law. When he spoke, people listened. He was a man of authority, a man with excellent communication skills.
Paul had every reason to be prideful and puffed up, but after his conversion – after he met Jesus face to face – he became a different man.
His letters to the Churches show a man of sincerity with a genuine concern for the spiritual good of others. Instead of endlessly striving to get the most OUT of life, Paul became a man consumed with putting the most INTO life. He stood tall in the faith.
If you want to stand tall in your faith, consider these three things: The humility of your heart
The mission of your life The depth of your love
A humble heart says, “I don’t need more of the world. Rather, I need more of Jesus. It’s not about me; it’s all about Jesus. I’m a nobody in this world, but a somebody in Jesus.”
A Christian’s mission in this life isn’t to be consumed with education, success, wealth, power, popularity, pleasure, fun, or even family. Our mission is advancing the kingdom of God. Our focus is to be Jesus.
Lastly, a Christian’s life will be marked by a sacrificial love for others. We will have a deep love and genuine concern for the souls of the lost people in this world.
The mark of a Christian is not what we have, but what we are willing to give for the expansion and glory of God’s kingdom.

Mike brought our special music this morning, the very comforting “Till the Storm Passes Over”. Randy McWhorter and his wife Lou, Bro. Bubba’s sister, were with us today. He gave a report on the Hands of Hope Ministry, that we help support.
Bro. Bubba’s message was from Matthew 26: 20-30. This is the account of Jesus and his disciples having the passover supper that we celebrate as the Lords Supper or The Last Supper. As they were getting ready to eat, Jesus said, “ One of you will betray me”. They were upset and began to ask “Is it I?” . We all need to examine ourselves. Everyone can be deceived. We have battles to fight every day. As we do, we can recognize our sins and repent. Judas’ betrayal was one of rejection of the salvation that Jesus offered. He was destined for Hell. Peter’s denial of saying he did not know Jesus was one of disobedience. He had accepted Jesus’ offer of salvation. He repented of the disobedience and was restored to fellowship with Jesus and the Father. The rejection of salvation is the sin that sends people to Hell. Jesus shared his blood and paid for all our sins. Those in Hell have had their sins paid, they just refused to accept the gift of salvation.
We then celebrated the Lord’s Supper as we examined our hearts and lives.
See You at the Pole is held at schools throughout the world each year, where students gather at their flag poles and call up on the true and living God for their schools, faculty, administrators, and anyone associated with education. This year it will be Wednesday, September 23rd. Since so many in our church attend different schools and homeschool, we meet that Wednesday, 6:30 PM, around our flagpole at the church.

Leviticus 16: 3-22 – Then Aaron shall cast lots for the two goats: one lot for the Lord and the other lot for the scapegoat. This had to be done every year on the Day of Atonement. Today sins are forgiven by the atoning blood of Jesus – In Him we have redemption through His blood, the forgiveness of sins, according to the riches of His grace (Ephesians 1:7).
The goat for the Lord represented the offering. There is a gulf between sin and God – Isaiah 59:2 – But your iniquities have separated you from your God. That is why Jesus had to come; to redeem mankind from sin. We had to have a way to be reconciled with God, due to the sin in our life. And as it is appointed for men to die once, but after this the judgment… Hebrews 9:27. Just as the goat, by the shedding of blood, paid the price for the Jews’ sins, Jesus paid the price for our sin. They were forgiven, looking toward the coming of Jesus.
Romans 10:11 – For the Scripture says, Whoever believes on Him will not be put to shame. Jesus is our atonement. However, we must confess our sins before the Father – If we confess our sins, HE is faithful and just and will forgive us our sins and purify us from all unrighteousness. As the scapegoat was released out into the wilderness, our sins, too, are removed from us. Romans 10:9 – if you confess with your mouth the Lord Jesus and believe in your heart that God has raised Him from the dead, you will be saved.
