The celebration of our nation’s 250th birthday is just days away. This past Sunday, we took time to somberly remember and yet to celebrate and honor the One who provided our victory over death.

The Lord’s Supper is about remembering our Savior who paid the ultimate price for our sins. Luke 22:14-20 records the first Lord’s Supper. As Jesus takes the bread and the wine, he uses both the sight of these common elements and the sound of his voice to communicate truth to his disciples.

He takes the bread and breaks it. He takes the cup and pours it out. His disciples don’t understand it yet, but they are about to witness Jesus Himself be broken and poured out. The very next day, they will witness the fulfillment of what “breaking” and “poured out” mean. And as they do, they will hear His words replaying in their heads: “This is my body,” “This is my blood,” “Do this in remembrance of Me.”

The Roman cross is one of the cruelest means of execution ever devised, reserved for the worst of the worst. And this is the method of death that God chose to help us understand the concept of what our sin cost. This type of death was the closet thing to Hell on earth that God could use to relate torment with no relief, torment that leads to a desire to die, but no relief ever comes.

On the cross, Jesus is helping us realize how serious sin is, what is owed because of it. What it cost, what was paid.

Why would God send His Son to endure such pain for us? Because of His love for us. Never has there been a greater display of love. Jesus paid the penalty for our sin. “This is my body broken and my blood poured out FOR YOU,” Jesus still tells us. Accept that gift today!

Pastor Bubba Hoggatt

Mike and Phyllis blessed us with the praise song “Thank You Lord for Your Blessings on Me”.

Bro. Bubba‘s message was titled “ Entertainment or Encounter”.

When Jesus lived on earth, He performed many miracles; many more than are recorded. A miracle is something that is contrary to natural order. He did not perform these miracles to help the afflicted person only. The reasons were: to point people to God, to show divine authority, to reveal the character of God, and to encourage the saints. An example of this is shown in the miracle in Acts: 16: 25-34. Paul and Silas were beaten and put into prison. They were singing and praising God when a mighty earthquake shook the prison, opened the doors and loosed all the prisoners. The jailer was about to kill himself until Paul assured him all the prisoners were there. He asked how could he be saved. When Paul explained, he and his household accepted Christ. The miracle showed God‘s power over nature, pointed people to God and revealed the character and purposes of God, Paul and Silas loved God and people. We are to all praise God, love God and love people.

Luke 14:25-35: The modern Churches may know a little about God, without totally committing to Christ. What priority are we willing to place on following Jesus? If anyone comes to Me and does not hate his father and mother, wife and children, brothers and sisters, yes, and his own life also, he cannot be My disciple. Hate here actually means loves less than we love Christ. HE must be our ‘first love’. What priority is HE to you?

What price are we willing to pay? Salvation is free, but it is not cheap. Many will not pay the price to follow Christ. We are to live for Him; die for Him, possibly mocked or scorned for Him. Some ‘so-called’ Christians do not count the cost. For which of you, intending to build a tower, does not sit down first and count the cost, whether he has enough to finish it – lest, after he has laid the foundation, and is not able to finish, all who see it begin to mock him, saying, ‘This man began to build and was not able to finish’?

The Christian life is not a frolic, but a fight against the world, the flesh, Satan. Soldiers are not diplomats! With patience we keep on, never giving up! We are to be ‘salt’ – seasoning, preserving, penetrating. Salt makes us thirsty for Christ. Our Christian testimony is to point others to Christ. You are the salt of the earth; but if the salt loses its flavor … It is then good for nothing … – Matthew 5:13. It is up to Christians to make a difference in this world. What kind of follower are you?
