“God’s Heart Toward Christian Charity” ~ II Corinthians 9:1-9
Christian charity – the willingness and practice of helping those in need – is a very big emphasis in Scripture.
Jewish converts to Christianity in Jude’s were facing harsh persecution. Kicked out of families and communities, work was limited, making
buying and selling difficult. Fellow Believers were suffering.
Paul teaches the Gentile (non- Jew) Church the importance of being charitable and helping fellow brothers and sisters in the faith. It’s ironic that historically, the Gentile and Jew hated one another. Now we’re seeing their unity in Christ.
Paul urges the Church to follow through with their earlier promise of help. These gifts will be used by God to minister to others in Christ’s name.
Charity is at the heart of Christianity. Paul relates two very important principles of giving:
If you sow sparingly, you reap sparingly; sow bountifully and reap bountifully. When God takes what we give and blesses it, there’s no limit to what He can do. Just remember the loaves and fishes story!
Christian charity is to be given from the heart, not grudgingly or under a feeling of compulsion. When we realize the cost of our salvation – Jesus’ death on the cross – then love and charity towards others becomes an easy and natural part of the Christian experience.
Verse 7 says, “Each person should do as he has decided in his own heart – not reluctantly or out of compulsion, since God loves a cheerful giver.”
Remember, too, Luke 12:48 tells us, “to whom much is given, much is required.” Lest this causes undue stress to some, there’s another biblical principle that we’ll study next week: You will never out-give God!

Pastor Bubba Hoggatt
Mike brought our special music with the inspiring “It is Well With My Soul “.
Today was a very special day, the dedication of three precious little ones by their parents. Bro Bubba‘s message “ A Heritage From the Lord”. Psalms 127:3.
A baby is the greatest opportunity in our families. We can’t do anything about our ancestors, but we can teach descendants.
God is the giver of the most precious gift entrusted to a family. He is giving the family the most important thing he ever created. God knows a child from the moment he is conceived through every day of his life. The goodness of God has trusted parents with something wonderful. This gift from God is unearned, not deserved, and would not be, but for the goodness of God. A child is our heritage, the most important thing other than salvation. Parents should give them nothing less than the knowledge of God. With gratitude, parents are to raise the child in the nurture and admonition of the Lord. Then parents, with their babies, came to the front and promised to raise their child in the Lord.

Romans 5: Therefore, having been justified by faith, we have peace with God through our Lord Jesus Christ. We all have spiritual needs: We need peace, security from hurt and harm, but our greatest need is Christ Jesus. Our sins have separated us from God; however, Christ made the way for peace. Now, we have access by faith into this grace. Our security from God’s Son comes through grace in time of need. Security is supplied through Christ’s grace during trials, temptation, comfort, forgiveness. We have security in our future – Not even death … can separate us from the love of God – Romans 8:38.
In adversity we also glory in tribulations, knowing that tribulation produces perseverance; and perseverance, character; and character, hope. Now hope does not disappoint, because the love of God has been poured out in our hearts by the Holy Spirit who was given to us. Life is full of problems: sickness, old age, passing of love ones. In Heaven we will look back and see life worked out for our good. In the meantime, Keep on Keeping On.
We each have an identity for the God, who created us, loves us. HE would have died even if it was just for “you”! Going to the cross, Christ showed how much HE loves you. Every drop of blood spoke of His love. That Is Amazing Grace! We all came from Adam – through one man sin entered the world, and death through sin … Thus, we all need Christ, who frees us from sin through His grace. But where sin abounded, grace abounded much more. However, You must be ‘born again’ to receive this grace.
