There is a specific kind of honesty in NeedToBreathe’s writing. Usually, we reach for the mountaintop anthems—the ones that feel like a victory lap. But “The Long Surrender” pulls us into the debris. It’s not interested in the polished veneer of Sunday morning; it sits right in the dirt of the “bottom of a ship going down.”
This isn’t a song you lead for a crowd looking to be entertained; it’s a song for a room that has actually experienced the “long, winding loss of Your will.” That’s a hard thing to ask someone to sing if they haven’t been broken by life yet.
What catches me is that line: “It’s the knowing that everything rises from the hem of Your gown.” It’s a quiet, desperate nod to the woman in Matthew 9 who reached for the fringe of Jesus’ garment. She didn’t need a sermon; she just needed contact. When we sing that line, are we waiting for that touch?
And then there is “the Landing.” We end on the promise that God turns our sorrows into a crown. It’s a brutal, beautiful claim. It echoes Romans 8. It sounds like someone who has spent all night crying and is now seeing the sun rise over the ashes.
Do we actually believe that? When the music drops out, the lingering thought isn’t about how good the hook sounded. It’s the quiet, often uncomfortable question of whether we are willing to stay in that surrender.
It just promises the presence of the One who makes crowns out of what we thought was garbage born of the challenges, trials and tribulations of our lives.
It leaves us there, kneeling. Not because we’ve mastered the faith, but because we’ve finally run out of ways to save ourselves. It’s an unfinished posture, and maybe that’s the most honest way to start a week.

The Motivation to Give – 2 Corinthians 8:1-24
The Apostle Paul encourages the setting aside of a monetary gift each week to be used for the ministry of the Gospel and in ministering to Christians facing persecution.
Paul calls this weekly gift the grace of God, and it is important that we understand that our tithes and offerings are indeed gifts of grace from God.
God’s grace provides us with all that we have. In addition, our tithes and offerings are used as a means to display grace to others by taking the Good News of Jesus to the entire world.
Through the southern Baptist Cooperative Program, we join financial forces with other churches, large and small, to ensure Jesus’ Great Commission to take the Gospel Truth to all the world is fulfilled.
In many parts of the world, Christians are still harshly persecuted as they were in Paul’s day. A portion of our tithes and offerings is also given to support and help these persecuted Christians.
Our giving is a reflection of God working through us to extend His Grace to others. It isn’t individuals or specific churches who are identified and recognized for providing, but it is God providing His grace through His people!
Paul then describes the heart of this “grace-giving.” It was consistent and according to each one’s ability. They gave of their own accord, an extension of their commitment to the Lord and His work.
Christ set aside His riches for us (vs. 9), setting aside the glory of Heaven to humble Himself to die for us. He became poor so we could become rich. What better motivation to share the blessings He has given us?
When the grace of God controls us, it controls all of us, including our finances. One of the greatest acts of faith that Christians can partake of is giving grace to others through consistent, joyful sharing of our tithes and offerings. When we surrender our wealth and security to the Lord, we can truly live by faith.

The ladies of our choir brought our special music today, “Wonderful, Merciful Savior”. Bro. Bubba’s sermon was, “When Last is First”. Philippians: 2: 1-11.
When the rich young ruler asked how he could have eternal life, Jesus gave him an answer that showed where the rich young ruler’s heart really was. The disciples, who had basically given up all their worldly possessions to follow Jesus, asked what would they have.
Jesus’s answer was “those who obey will one day be exalted.” Jesus was the example of servant hood. We are commanded to follow.
1) The Impossible Task. Philippians2: 1-4.
We are told to look after others , to esteem others before ourselves. Apart from Christ, that is impossible. The Holy Spirit lives within our hearts to help us follow God‘s commands.
2) The Immutable Truth. Philippians 2: 5-8.
Jesus is equal to God. He is God. Jesus, the one who spoke everything into existence, made himself a servant. He gave up all his glory to come and die on the cross for our sins.
3). Immeasurable Treasurers. Philippians.2:9.
We are to set ourselves aside and love in order to win others to Christ. We will draw them by humbling ourselves. Often, we are slapped down, called names, or mocked. One day we will be exalted. We are on mission for Christ.

Rocky Branch Baptist Church (R.B.B.C.) , Rocky Branch Community, celebrates 41 years together, serving the LORD! R.B.B.C. was birthed in the heart of Bro. Paul Carter, meeting in his and Mrs. Audie’s home, until the original church building was built. (This is now the Pastor’s Office and Education Building.) From there, under the ministry of Bro. Donald Reeves and wife, Melba, the current Sanctuary was built. Later, under the ministry of Bro. Woodson McGuffee and wife, Deborah, the current Fellowship Hall was built. Many have come and gone; some to move on and some have gone to Heaven. Those of us here, are still growing and serving the Lord.
Today, we were ministered to in song, by Wade Hammond. Wade came to realize, some people will come to a country singing, that may not come to church. So, he agreed to sing country, while incorporating gospel songs. Once it was stated, “I’ve been to church”! Wade blessed us with many hymns, such as I’ll Fly Away, as well as songs he has written himself.
Even for Christians, sadness can come. He and his wife, Kathy, too have had heartaches. But as they can testify, God will always see us through. People may let us down, but the Lord will never let us down.
Christians will be together again one day. As Bro. Paul Pearson reminded us in closing, it all comes down to what we do with Jesus. To be together in Heaven again, one must recognize they are a sinner, ask Christ’s forgiveness, and ask Him to come in to their heart. And whenever Satan reminds you of your past, you remind him of his future!
