Rev. Hank Hamilton
It’s amazing that when we lose someone we
love, how many everyday things remind us
of them; morning cups of coffee, walks on a
beach, holidays, and even love songs of any
genre. These times may cause moments of
sadness; but hopefully they also bring fond
loving memories of being with those we
love. May we also remember ‘God’s timing’
and His love for us. And that our loved
one is safe, not hurting and happy in His
presence — and that we will see our beloved
one again.
Hopefully, when it’s our turn to face this
human certainty we, too, will have this conviction:
Psalm 23:4 “Even though I walk
through the valley of the shadow of death,
I will fear no evil, for you are with me.”
Knowing/believing that; “For everything
there is a season, and a time for every matter
under heaven.” Ecclesiastes 3:1 “For
there is a time and procedure for every purpose,
although the misery (the sadness) of
man is heavy upon him”. Ecclesiastes 8:6
This verse tells us that even in our suffering,
God has a purpose for all things — trust
in His plan during challenging moments.
In your sadness, turn to Him; turn to family,
church family, friends… and yes, even to
music that brings peace to you.
The love expressed in the song, My Love,
was written about humanly love… But it
just as well could be a song about God’s
love for you, your loved one… for all of us
- and our love for Him.
My Love — Songwriter: Tony Hatch
My love is warmer than the warmest
sunshine, softer than a sigh
My love is deeper than the deepest
ocean, wider than the sky
My love is brighter than the brightest
star that shines every night above
And there is nothing in this world
that can ever change my love
Something happened to my
heart the day that I met you
Something that I never felt before
You are always on my mind no matter what I do
And everyday, it seems I want you more
Once, I thought that love was
meant for anyone else but me
Once, I thought you’d never come my way
Now, it only goes to show
how wrong we all can be
For now, I have to tell you everyday
My love is warmer than the warmest
sunshine, softer than a sigh
My love is deeper than the deepest
ocean, wider than the sky
My love is brighter than the brightest
star that shines every night above
And there is nothing in this world that can
ever change my love
Be strong in your precious memories. Love
one another.
John 13:34-35 “A new command I give
you: Love one another…”
1 Corinthians 13:13 “And now these three
remain: faith, hope and love. But the greatest
of these is love”.

The historical account of Jonah and the
whale is the miraculous account of God
sending a storm and a great fish to change
the direction of Jonah’s life. It emphasizes
just how big and in control God is.
Jonah was an Old Testament prophet who
received instruction from God to go to
Nineveh to tell them of His impending
judgement for their wicked ways. What did
Jonah do? He chose his own path and headed
out in the opposite direction! Jonah was
not where he was supposed to be.
Are we where we’re supposed to be? Not
physically, but spiritually. Are we where
we know God wants us to be, or like Jonah,
have we let our personal desires and feelings
overshadow God’s purpose and will
for our lives? Remember, Jonah was a man
of God, yet he chose to be his own god by
defiantly choosing his own way. If it could
happen to him, it can happen to any of us.
Choosing to be your own god is a dangerous
place to be. Jonah 1:3 describes what
happened next. Jonah goes DOWN to Joppa,
DOWN into a boat, to end up DOWN
in the belly of a great fish, DOWN in the
bottom of the ocean. His disobedient life
was on a downward spiral. The same will
happen to us when we deliberately live in
opposition to God’s will, which is plainly
laid out in His Word and in the working of
the Holy Spirit in our lives.
Notice also, that Jonah wasn’t the only
one affected by his disobedience. A whole
bunch of folks on that boat were fighting
for their very lives. Everything we do affects
those around us. When sin comes into
our homes, it not only affects the parents,
but it affects the lives of your children!
Jonah finally owned up to the fact that he
was the problem. Not the storm, not the
waves, but his disobedience to the clear instruction
of God.

Pastor Bubba Hoggatt
We welcomed our new music minister,
Mike Freeman. We had a great song service
and his special “He Touched Me”, was very
meaningful. This Sunday begins a new
church year. Kids are promoted into different
classes. New teachers and officers begin
their work. We all need to realize these positions
have eternal significance. Our goal
is to bring others to Christ. Bro. Bubba‘s
message was from I Timothy. In this passage,
Paul was mentoring Timothy. He was
explaining how to overcome obstacles he
would face. Each of us has a position in the
church, whether it is a teacher, deacon, or
prayer warrior. No position is more important
than another. Bro. Bubba explained 10
things to apply to our lives to be successful.
1) Teach sound doctrine. I Timothy 1: 3,4.
Keep the main thing, the main thing . Fellowship
is important, but we need to be
sure it doesn’t take up our time in reaching
people for Christ.
2) Trustworthy. I Timothy 1: 11. God has
entrusted us to pass on the gospel of Christ.
We should be dependable and prepared.
3). Purity of life. I Timothy 1:5. The way
we live our lives will help draw others to
Christ. We should live so they can see that
we are different from the world.
4) Spirit controlled. I Timothy 1:12. Our
greatest desire should be that God finds us
faithful. He puts His Holy Spirit within us
to help us.
5) Consistency. I Timothy 1: 19. We should
be faithful to the house of God so that we
can be consistent in his work.
6). Prayer warrior. I Timothy 2:1. For people
to see God in our lives, we must be
prayer warriors. Satan knows the power
of prayer, and will throw many hindrances
into our prayer time. It is a battle with Satan
to maintain our prayer life.
7) Humility. I Timothy 3:6. A proud person
has “ me attitude”, not putting others first
. Humility is essential in leading others to
Christ.
8). Discipline. I Timothy 4: 8. Many people
are very disciplined as far as their exercise
and diet. It is important to take care of the
temple (our physical bodies). But, it is so
much more important to take care of what’s
in the temple. This is a must if we are going
to be faithful to God‘s work.
9) Student of God’s Word I Timothy 4: 12.
If we are serious about growing in Christ,
we will spend time in his word. We should
be able to share His Word with others in
any situation.
10). Leader in battle. I Timothy 6: 11,12.
Always witness. Always be faithful, no
matter what the situation. It is often a battle
with Satan to do God’s work. If we aren’t
willing to do these 10 things, then we aren’t
who God needs to lead our church this
new year.

Philippians 4:9-13, 19: for I have learned
in whatever state I am, to be content …
We are not satisfied with what we have;
we want More! Credit card debt is driving
millions into bankruptcy. The only Command
that deals with actions, desires from
the heart: Exodus 20:17 – Thou shall not
covet. It is an uncontrollable desire to acquire,
wanting what others have; not being
satisfied with what we do have.
Many people are afflicted with covetousness
desires of the heart because of wanting
what others have; while eating them up on
the inside, it cannot be seen from the outside.
Coveting is where things own the person.
Paul, even while in prison, reminds us
to be content, the opposite of covetousness.
We are to be content in what we do have,
instead of complaining about what we do
not have. Satisfaction comes from Who we
have – Hebrews 13:5. What we have should
be enough – Ecclesiastes 5:19. If we truly
love God, we will serve Him through i.e.
witnessing, etc. God’s power will work
through us, when we make ourselves available
to Him. And my God shall supply all
your need according to His riches in glory
by Christ Jesus.
Covetousness comes from an ungrateful
heart. We are to be glad for what others
have. We can admire without acquiring.
Sometimes the things we want, we do not
even need. And we should be gracious to
those who do not have. Remember from
where your blessings come. God blesses
us, so we can be a blessing to others. Praise
Him for what HE has given you, as well as
what HE has given to others.
