Stretching muscles and learning lessons

Physical therapy, I’ve decided, can teach us a few things about life. 

I’ve been going because of pain around my sacroiliac joint, and somewhere among the leg lifts, repetitions and instructions about how to move, I began to learn more than how to get better physically. As I’ve gone through exercises at therapy and dutifully – well, usually dutifully – done my assignments at home, other lessons emerged. 

Let me hasten to say I’m thankful my experience hasn’t been particularly difficult. I know many people face painful and demanding rehabilitation after serious injuries, surgeries or illnesses, and I don’t put my experience in that category at all. But even relatively easy physical therapy, it turns out, can be a good classroom for life.
