Town of Farmerville Sanitation Department will be closed on Monday September 4th for Labor Day. Pick up will be a day behind, please put bins out on your normal scheduled day.

Burn ban statewide
continues, is expanded

The statewide burn ban put in place on August 7 by the Louisiana Fire Marshal continues, and this week Gov. John Bel Edwards expanded the ban to include fires planned by state agencies. Both bans will remain in force until further notice. The use of barbeque grills and fire pits for recreational cooking purposes are allowed and not affected by the burn ban. Violation of this Fire Marshal order could result in criminal and/or civil penalties.

Labor Day fireworks
over Lake D’Arbonne

The Chamber of Commerce will conduct a fireworks event over Labor Day weekend. “Labor Day Weekend Blowout” over Lake D’Arbonne is set for Saturday, September 2, beginning at approximately at 8:30 pm. The fireworks show will begin as soon after 8:30 pm as possible or when the sky becomes dark enough for fireworks to be fully appreciated. UPSO initiates program
for special needs citizens

Union Parish Sheriff Dusty Gates announced this week that a program aimed at improving the safety of the parish’s special needs population will begin Sept. 1 Gates said the “Friends of UPSO” program is available to individuals with specials needs like autism, dementia, epilepsy, PTSD, Down Syndrome, as well as stroke survivors and those who are blind or deaf, and those with other conditions that may affect the way the individual interacts with first responders. Beginning Sept. 1 parents and guardians can stop by the UPSO front lobby and complete the brief questionnaire and to receive a decal to affix to their vehicle and home. There is no charge or fee associated with this program.

Latino festival seeks
vendors and sponsors

The 12th Annual Dia de la Familia is set for Oct. 13-14 in downtown Farmerville, and organizers are currently seeking sponsors and vendors. The family friendly festival celebrating the Latino community of Union Parish will be held from 6-11 pm on Friday and from 2-6 pm on Saturday.
