National Beta members from Union Parish Elementary are celebrating their first-ever Louisiana Elementary Beta State Convention held January 17 – 18, in Lafayette. Eleven Beta members in the 4th and 5th grades at Union Parish Elementary attended the convention along with almost 5,500 other members from elementary schools all over the state. The National Beta State Convention allows students the opportunity to compete in various individual and team competitions. Members participated in a virtual online test, which focused on a selected subject before attending the convention. Members also mingled among other elementary Beta groups as they participated in trading pins, created by members of the group.
With more than 500,000 active members and 14,000 clubs nationally and internationally, National Beta has become the nation’s largest independent, non-profit, educational youth organization. National Beta promotes the ideals of academic achievement, character, service and leadership among elementary and secondary school students. National Elementary Beta includes grades 4-5, National Junior Beta includes grades 6-8 and National Senior Beta includes grades 9-12.
