The Board of Directors of Union Museum of History and Art-Discovery Place is pleased to announce that Vickie Wheelis, Ed.D., will serve as the first-ever director of the museum beginning September 3. “We are delighted that Dr. Wheelis will become our director and use her considerable leadership skills to guide the museum in achieving great things in the future,” says Mary Barrios, Board Chair. “She will oversee all aspects of museum operations, events, and programs, and will work closely with community volunteers and board members in serving our community.”
Dr. Wheelis, a graduate of Louisiana Tech University, is a career educator, most recently serving as Director of Adult Education for Louisiana Delta Community College from 2016 to 2022. Prior to that, she was Family Literacy Specialist, Curriculum Coordinator, and Workforce Coordinator for the Ouachita Parish School Board and then Louisiana Delta Community College. For the first 16 years of her career, she was a classroom teacher in Lincoln Parish and then Ouachita Parish.
Jean Jones, who has served as program director since the museum’s founding in 2014, will continue as an active member of the museum’s volunteer team.
