In July of 1978 I loaded up my wife and six-month old
daughter and moved to Saudi Arabia for sixteen won-
derful years of work and adventure. While the work was
challenging and exciting it was the local Saudi Arab that
was a true delight to be associated with.
The company was not an old aging mega-gi-
ant as compared to the other major oil compa-
nies at the time. ARAMCO, The Arabian Amer-
ican Oil Company, was small geographically as
it was only operating in Saudi Arabia while the
other multinational oil companies were oper-
ating around the globe. It had a sizable labor
force but again the other major oil companies
were much larger. What it did have was the
ability to produce large quantities of oil at a
low price; so much oil that it was the largest oil
producer in the world.
