The primary mission of the United States Navy

We are at war, let no one think differently. There are those that like to use semantics to circumvent what reality is and declare that we are not really involved in a war. We heard this fifty years ago when we were engaged in a “police action” in a small jungle country in Southeast Asia. The same was said when we attacked Libya and invaded Afghanistan and countless other “incursions” but make no mistake about it, we were in war mode.

A definition of war is a state of organized, large‑scale conflict between political communities—usually nations, states, or organized groups—carried out through the use of armed force to achieve political, territorial, economic, or ideological objectives. The term large scale is subjective. If America sends an aircraft carrier and 2000 marines to overthrow a country, America’s view is that this is not a large scale conflict while the small South American country will view this as a huge conflict when they view the United States Navy sitting off its coast.
