The Nuclear Family

When I first heard the term “nuclear family” I thought of some derogatory term that expressed a new modern family which was filled with social media, computer games and not social involvement within the family. What a shock and pleasant surprise when the true definition was discovered.
The term has been used to a large extent over the past several years and makes one think that it appeared at a point in time that corresponds to the nuclear age. This is incorrect and the term first appeared in the Mirriam Webster Dictionary in 1924.
