Terrorist Attack on Bourbon Street, New Years

Early on New Years Day, a man intentionally drove a pickup truck into a crowd of party-goers on Bourbon Street in New Orleans, killing at least 15 individuals and injuring dozens of others, according to officials. Attached to the bumper of the pickup truck was an ISIS flag.
The attack is being investigated by the Federal Bureau of Investigation as an act of terrorism. According to the FBI, the man driving the vehicle has been identified as Shamsud-Din Jabbar, 42, a U.S. citizen from Texas.
During the investigation, the FBI determined that just hours before the attack, Jabbar “posted videos to social media indicating that he was inspired by ISIS, expressing a desire to kill.”
Currently, the FBI believes that Jabbar is not solely responsible for the attack, and that there is currently a wide range of suspects that the FBI is looking into. The FBI is also working to determine his potential affiliations or associations with terrorist associations.

In wake of the attack, the Sugar Bowl college football game, which was meant to take place in the Superdome later Wednesday, has been postponed. According to officials, the stadium would be locked down until the game.

Chief Executive Officer of the Sugar Bowl, Jeff Hundley, on the subject of the Sugar Bowl being delayed, had this to say:

“We live in the fun and games world, with what we do, but we certainly recognize the importance of [postponing the Sugar Bowl] and we’re going to support it 100%.”
