Samuel James Reeves, Sr.

Samuel James Reeves, Sr. was born on March 27, 1943 to G.C. and Earlene Reeves. After a lengthy battle with dementia, he went to be with our Savior on November 24, 2023.

At 15 years old, Sam started his first job at Allen Brothers picking up dead chickens at night. He was the first senior in his grade to get a car and would give out rides, as long as his passengers paid for the gas. Sam loved to work and worked many jobs throughout his life: EMT, 30 years at General Motors with early retirement to care for his wife, “RoRo”, and of course hours of work in the garden, getting the fishing gear ready, and prepping for hunting.

Sam was a loving dad, grandfather, and friend. He was a member of the Church of Christ, attending in Marion for most of his life, then later in El Dorado.  He never met a stranger and would give the shirt off his back if someone was in need.  He loved deer hunting, fishing, and growing tomatoes. By chance, Sam met the love of his life Rosalie, “RoRo”, on a blind date. She had just moved back to his neck of the woods and her friends set the two of them up. They were married on November 17, 1962 and celebrated 46 wonderful years together.

Sam was proceeded in death by his wife, Rosalie P. Reeves, “RoRo”, his mother Earlene Markham Reeves, and father George C. Reeves.  He was survived in death by son Samuel J. Reeves, Jr. and wife Patricia, daughter Teresa R. Howard and husband Dave, and son Robert Allen Reeves and wife Ginger.

He was also survived by eight grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren. They include Vanessa Pierce and husband Mike, Justin Caskey, Chad Caskey and wife Adriane, Heather Marsh and husband Justin, Chris Reeves and wife Dina, Alyssa Reeves, Dylan Reeves, Victoria Watson, Caden Pierce, Titus Caskey, Alison Rose Reeves, Asher Caskey, Aiden, Linus Caskey, and Callie Rose Marsh.

A Remembrance Memorial was held at Farrar Funeral Home on Thursday, November 30, 2023 at 2:00 p.m. There was a time to come by and celebrate with the family beforehand during visitation from 1:00-2:00p.m.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be sent to Fairview Cemetery Fund (154 Newt Rd. Marion, LA 71260), The Vine of Northeast Louisiana (www.thevineofnela.org), or Fairpark Baptist Church c/o Women’s Ministries (4412 Whites Ferry Rd. West Monroe, LA 71291).

Pallbearers: Justin Caskey, Dylan Reeves, Justin Marsh, Chad Caskey, Titus Caskey, Jose Reeves and Brandon Brantley. Serving as honorary pallbearers will be Chris Reeves, Charlie Reeves, Ricky Bradshaw and Logan Brantley.
