Paying for American citizenship — nothing new

By: Tuffy Fields

I would like to begin by saying, “Happy Easter”. In the middle of international confusion, conflict and domestic violent behavior let us not forget the teachings of the son of God, Jesus Christ. Can we not step back and take a deep breath and call a time out for anything negative and embrace positive thoughts. Instead of talking about our fellow man in an arrogant and condescending way, let us look for the good in our neighbors and friends and use that as a subject of discussion. Let us use this time of the season to build our society, our nation, our community and reinforce what has been given to us two thousand years ago.

The news channels are beginning to fill with stories about those that are having children in America, returning to their home lands and the children reap the future benefits of the greatest country in the world. This is allowed by virtue of the hallowed document that we are to live under, the Constitution of the United States of America. Many argue that this is a different world than the Constitution had been when our forefathers inked this document two hundred and fifty years ago. Some say the document does not apply anymore and therefore should be ignored. If this is true then a precedent would be set to throw out the Constitution in part or in full without regard to what the paper encompasses. Instead of arbitrarily attempting to change what some people would like to see changed, the way to modify the Constitution is by way of the Constitutional Amendment. Our forefathers gave us a vehicle to modify the document and that is what we should use to change the Constitution, for whatever reason.
