Funeral services for Mr. Joseph “Joe” H. Phillips, age 72 of Spearsville, LA, was held at 2:00 PM, Wednesday, March 13, 2024 at Birds Chapel Methodist Church with Bro. Glen Nale and Bro. Kurt Auger officiating. Interment followed at Birds Chapel Cemetery in Truxno, LA under the direction of Farrar Funeral Home.
Mr. Joseph was born December 14, 1951 in Austin, Texas. He was a graduate of Farmerville High School and was a U.S. Navy veteran. He worked in different nursing homes and chip mills during his life but eventually retired from Foster Farms. Mr. Joseph never met a stranger and was known for handing out gum and peppermints. Every Christmas, he would send his family peppermint candy canes. He was an avid Saints fan and loved taking his grandchildren to the Union High School football games. Mr. Joseph was a member of First Baptist Church in Spearsville, LA and Faith Baptist Church in Farmerville, LA.
Mr. Joseph was preceded in death by his parents, Melvin Revis Phillips and Joy Dale Nale Phillips Tabor.
He is survived by his daughter, Chasity Phillips Weldon (Randy); grandchildren, Joseph Weldon and Kaylee Weldon; fiancé, Dianne Buffet; his sisters, Judy Mills and Jackie Hamilton (Larry Croswell); brother, Melvin “Stevie” Phillips (Lisa Farman); special great nephew, Carter Despain “Little Bud”; and numerous cousins, nieces, and nephews.
Serving as pallbearers were Brett Hendrix, Michael Hamilton, Michael Hamilton, Jr., Larry Croswell, Joseph Weldon, and Mike Smith.
Visitation was held at 1:00 PM, prior to the service, Wednesday, March 13, 2024 at Birds Chapel Methodist Church.
