Elmer Ray Black, 81 of Spearsville, LA, passed away Thursday, July 18, 2024 at his residence. Elmer was born on April 19, 1943 in Spearsville to the late Penelope Geneva Holley Black and Leslie Marlon Black. He was a longtime member of Pilgrim’s Rest Baptist Church, where he served as a Deacon for
many years. He was a retired truck driver, having worked for many companies and traveled many miles throughout his career. After retirement, he enjoyed working on small engines and raising a vegetable garden. He was a great base guitar player and especially enjoyed playing
and singing at church. He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Barbara Sue Green Black; and by four siblings, Leslie Black Jr., Lena Jean Thurmon, Nellie Louise Smith, and Elver May Carter. Survivors include; two daughters, Karen Black and husband Jeff Johnson, and Angie Arender and husband Justin; two sons, Marty Black and wife Tessa, and Michael Black and wife Juandy; Ten grandchildren; Thirteen Great Grandchildren, along with numerous nieces, nephews and friends.
Visitation will be held from 5:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday, July 23, 2024 at Pilgrims Rest
Baptist Church. Funeral services will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Wednesday, July 24, 2024 at
Pilgrim’s Rest Baptist Church, with Bro. Nick Andrews, Bro. Rubin Weaver, Bro. Marty Black, and
Bro. Justin Arender officiating. Burial will follow at Pilgrim’s Rest Cemetery, under the direction
of Bailey Funeral Home.
