Today is a very special day for one of our D’arbonne Woods’ Seniors. Axton Nolan, whose parents both served in the military, has been in the process of interviewing for a prestigious position with the Air Force Academy. This is a grueling and tedious process involving interviews with senators and government officials. As a result of Axton’s successful interviews and test results, Speaker of the House Mike Johnson called him at school to announce he was accepted into the Air Force Academy. This is a distinguished honor. Louisiana only gets one candidate per congressional district to send to the Academy and Axton beat out all other applicants with a nomination package that scored an impressive 98! The United States Air Force Academy educates cadets for service in the officer corps of the United States Air Force or Space Force. The Academy’s mission is to “motivate, prepare, and evaluate selected candidates in an academic, military, moral, and physical environment, to perform successfully and enhance diversity at the Air Force Academy” (U.S. Air Force Academy). When Axton graduates he will have his bachelor’s completed and he will join the ranks as an officer. We hope our students, faculty and community will help us commend Axton on this extraordinary achievement. Congratulations to Axton and his parents and thank you for your willingness to serve our country. There is no greater honor.
