True or False? Doesn’t really matter.
This is still a good message
for our times. Paraphrased from
Cartoons Inspired; An elementary
school teacher was grading papers
one night; tears welling up as she
did. Her husband, playing “Candy
Crush Saga” on his phone, noticed
and asked why she was crying. She
explained that she had given out
a writing assignment titled: “My
Wish” and that one paper was the
cause for tears.
The student’s paper began… “My
parents love their smart phones very
much. They care about their smart
phones so much that sometimes they
forget to care about me. When my
dad comes home from work tired,
he has time for his smart phone,
but not for me. When my parents
are doing something important and
their phones ring, they will answer
it right away; but they won’t answer
me, even when I’m crying. They
play games on their phones, but not
with me. When they’re talking to
someone on their phones, they never
listen to me; even if I’m trying to
tell them something important. So,
my wish is to become a smartphone.
Her husband asked which student
wrote that paper? She answered –
our son. The moral of this story to
NOT sacrifice our families over the
pursuit of material things. Technology
is here to make our lives easier

  • NOT to control us or to turn us
    into unsocial addicts.
It’s not too late for us to turn back
to old fashioned basic loving family
lives… to a time before smart
    phones and computer games. Let’s
all put down the phone sometimes –
“children”, too. This “neglect” is a
2-way street. Set a good example
    – our children learn from “watching
us”. We can’t neglect children and
be in conformity with the person of
God. “You shall love the Lord your
God with all your heart, and with all
your soul, and with all your mind..
and, ‘You shall love your neighbor
    as yourself.” Matthew 22:37 & 39
Anyone who neglects a child is not
acting in love. Talk with the people
in your world – make sure they
    know and “feel” loved.

The impact that others have on our
lives is so powerful, and it can be
positive or negative. Look back on
the lives of Charles Manson and David
    Koresh. Lives were completely
    destroyed by these evil men.
On the other hand, consider the
countless lives blessed by men and
women such as Billy Graham and
Lottie Moon. Living their lives for
Christ made all the difference to so
many people, and that difference is
    eternal.
In 2 Timothy 1:5-8, Paul acknowledges
    his beloved friend and
co-worker, Timothy, as a man of
great faith. He points to Timothy’s
    heritage in the Christian faith,
    highlighting the faith of Timothy’s
    mother and grandmother.
Even though Timothy’s father was a
Greek, the lifelong influences of his
    grandmother Lois, and his mother,
    Eunice, were huge upon Timothy’s
    life. Timothy’s Christian walk ultimately
    began at their knees.
The vast majority of Christians can
trace their faith back to a Christian
home, to Christian parents. Back to
someone who read Bible stories to
us or taught us how to pray. Back
to someone who modeled Christ for
    us.
Our life impacts our children and
    grandchildren! What we do matters!
Paul used descriptive words to describe
the faith that changes lives – a
    noticeable faith, sincere and powerful,
a loving, disciplined faith that is
active and involved in spreading the
    gospel of Jesus Christ.
Today we focus way too much on a
    “claimed” or “professed” faith. People
claim to hold to a faith that isn’t
evident in their daily lives. They
claim to love a God who they don’t
    even worship!
What kind of faith do we have?
What kind of faith do others see in
us? May we have a faith that blesses
others and proves to be a lasting
    legacy in their lives.

Today was a special day in our worship
    service. We celebrated mothers
and our graduating high school seniors.
    After a short video featuring
    our seniors, Thad Franklin, Wyatt
    Gilbert, Eli Redd, and Brody
    Towns, they were each presented
with a Bible and a gift. Bro Bubba’s
message was from John 19: 25-27.
Mary, Jesus ‘ mother, was “standing
by” at the cross. She knew God had
a plan for her Son. God has a plan
for each of your children as well.

Associate Pastor Stephen Murry
As mothers and grandmothers, you
must teach your children the Word
of God. Public schools no longer
can teach the Bible truths. You
ought to bring your children to Sunday
School and Church; however,
they should learn and see the Bible
lived out before them in the home.
In Second Timothy 1:5 – when I
call to remembrance the genuine
faith that is in you, which dwelt first
in your grandmother Lois and your
mother Eunice – Paul points out the
teaching Timothy received in the
home.
It is not enough to teach God’s
Word, we must live the right example
before the children. Our children
are entrusted into our hands by God.
We are to tell them about Jesus: that
Jesus loves them; died for them;
and how they can get to Heaven.
Your children are all you can take
to Heaven.
We are to keep God’s commandments.
In Mark 10:20-22, when the
rich young ruler was questioned,
he answered – “Teacher, all these
things I have kept from my youth.”
Then Jesus … said to him, “One
thing you lack: Go, sell whatever
you have and give to the poor, and
you will have treasure in Heaven;
and come, take up the cross, and
follow Me.” But he was sad at this
word, and went away sorrowful, for
he had great possessions. We must
teach our children that gold is not
more important than God. The love
of money kept this man from Jesus.
How about you? To lead your children
to Christ, you must be a Christian
yourself. If so, begin praying
for your children, who are away
from God or do not yet know Him.
