We begin a verse by verse study of
Paul’s letter to the church at Thessalonica
today.
We will see in our study of 1 Thessalonians
that the Apostle Paul had
a heart for the people in this church.
He will praise their faithfulness and
their actions, providing encouragement
and answers to their questions.
Some background: Paul had come
to Thessalonica in Greece because
of a dream he had while on his second
missionary journey. Through
this dream, Paul understood that
God was changing their direction
and sending them to a new region.
We see in Acts 17:1-10, that, as was
his custom, Paul visited the Jewish
synagogue first upon his arrival
and preached the gospel of Jesus
Christ to them. Over a three-week
period, some of them came to faith,
but afterwards, Paul and his fellow
missionary, Silas, were faced with
great opposition, led by some Jewish
men, and were basically run out
of town!
The charges against them were that
they had upset the world, promoting
another king besides Caesar

  • Jesus. Paul and Silas were probably
    in Thessalonica less than three
months, but the Holy Spirit had
    made a big impact there.
This is the first of Paul’s letters
(epistles). It was written around 20-
25 years after Jesus death, resurrection
    and ascension, and anywhere
from a few months to a few years
after they had been forced to leave
    Thessalonica. The New Testament
    church was still very young.
In these first lines to the church,
Paul’s emphasis is on God’s having
chosen the believers by His grace
and the power of the Holy Spirit
    to become Christians through believing
on the Lord Jesus Christ (1
    Thessalonians 1:1-5).
    What an encouragement for God’s
people! He works in and through
our lives. Like He did for the people
    of Thessalonica, He sends people
to tell us about Jesus, to help us in
our journey. We are chosen and redeemed
    by God’s grace!

We had a glorious worship day
at Liberty. Specials in song were
“Without Him” and “I Just Came to
    Talk with You, Lord”.
The message was taken from Isaiah
    42:6-7 titled: Called, Held, Kept,
Used. Everyone is called but not all
accept the call. God has called us to
be Holy. We need to know God in
order to be Holy. The call to salvation
is a call to holy living as the text
shows. God has the right to call us
as well as love on His side. When
we accept His call, He will become
our friend. Then we will be admitted
to His fellowship and have His
    companionship. We are not always
kept from temptation and trials, sorrow
    or affliction, crosses or losses,
but kept in and through, and sometimes
by, all these processes of discipline.
If God has lighted our candle
from His, then let us light others.
Let us allow others to be lighted by
us. We should never get the mully
grubs. God’s love is not part time –
but all the time. Love of God is for
everybody all the time. If He loves
us all the time, we should love Him
all the time. He calls us to salvation,
but then He calls us to be a light to
others. Called, held, kept, used – be
    ye Holy!
    We hosted Mt. Calvary Fellowship
    Meeting on April 27 at 5:00 p.m.
We invite all churches in the association
to come be with us for singing
and fellowship, and of course, delicious
food. We have such a wonderful
    time fellowshipping with our
brothers and sisters in Christ. We
rotate our meetings on the last Sunday
    of the month between Bethany
and Liberty. Our next meeting will
    be at Bethany in Bastrop.

Associate Pastor Stephen Murry
We at Rocky Branch Baptist Church
(R.B.B.C.) celebrated 40 years as a
church. R.B.B.C. was birthed in the
heart of Bro. Paul Carter in 1985.
Now the years have gone by and
many have passed on at our Old
Country Church. One day When
We All Get Together, we will celebrate
with all brothers and sisters in
Christ. The Good Ole Gospel Guys
rejoiced with us, bringing the Word
in song, followed by a message by
Bro. Roger Stoffer.
We were reminded “HE never left
me, when I chose to walk away.
Even when I couldn’t pray …”
What a wonderful reminder of
God’s grace. Have you ever been
there? When no words would come?
If you feel that no one loves you and
your life is out of hand, I Know a
Man Who Can – Jesus!
“When we live our lives alone,
try to make it on our own, still the
heartache and emptiness remains.
If we hold onto God’s hand, HE
will lead us to a land, where His
Son will always shine, beyond the
rain.” What an encouragement
for those, who have had love ones
pass on. But there’s just one way to
make that trip to Glory. For God so
loved the world that HE gave His
only begotten Son, that whoever believes
in Him should not perish but
have Everlasting Life. – John 3:16.
Today, make Jesus your choice …
Find peace and rest in Soul’s Harbor.
First John 5:13 – These things
I have written to you who believe
in the name of the Son of God, that
you may know that you have Eternal
Life. Today is the Day of Salvation!
