John 3:16 “For God so loved
the world, that he gave his only
Son, that whoever believes in him
should not perish but have eternal
life.”
In Jesus Christ, our Lord and Savior,
we have…
Blessed Assurance
Blessed assurance, Jesus is mine
Oh, what a foretaste of glory divine
Heir of salvation, purchase of God
Born of his Spirit, washed in His
blood
This is my story, this is my song
Praising my Savior all the day long
This is my story, this is my song
Praising my Savior all the day
long
Perfect submission, perfect delight
Visions of rapture
now burst on my sight
Angels descending
bring from above
Echoes of mercy, whispers of love
This is my story, this is my song
Praising my Savior all the day long
This is my story, this is my song
Praising my Savior all the day long
Praising my Savior all the day
long

The Great Commission of Jesus,
“Go ye therefore, and teach all nations,
baptizing them in the name
of the Father, and of the Son, and
of the Holy Ghost,” (Matt. 28:19),
is the Mission of the Church.
As Southern Baptists, we place a
lot of focus on sharing the Gospel,
both in our local churches and
abroad.
At First Baptist Farmerville, we
work hard to be a part of our community
in areas where the love
of Christ is revealed to others
through our members. Our desire
is that others may come to know
the compassionate love of Jesus
through our actions. In John’s 3rd
letter to his friend Gaius, John
commends him on his faithfulness
in walking in the truth and
in helping his brothers and sisters
in Christ who travel to spread the
Gospel.
In the last half of this brief letter,
however, he mentions Diotrephes,
a church leader who was rejecting
the messages of John and the
Apostles concerning helping missionaries.
Not only was he openly
neglecting the directive to give
Christian missionaries assistance,
Diotrephes was threatening to
expel church members who welcomed
them. He was also slandering
John and his helpers.
Diotrephes is described as one
who “loves to have first place”
among the church. We
don’t know if he suffered from
personal selfishness or if he just
wanted to brag about having the
biggest and best church. Maybe he
liked authority. Maybe he wanted
to use all the church’s resources
locally. In any event, he was hindering
the ministry of the church
as defined by Christ himself.
Then John mentions another man
named Demetrius, the polar opposite
of Diotrephes. Here was a
man spoken well of by everyone
in the church, a man who exemplified
living Truth in his Christian
walk.
Whether we know it or not, our
lives are our witness. People pay
attention to who we are, to what
we do, to how we act, to the things
on which we place importance.
People are watching our lives.
What do they see in us? Are we
furthering the Gospel of Jesus?

Associate Pastor Stephen Murry
Matthew 25:26-28 – And as
they were eating, Jesus took
bread, blessed and broke it, and
gave it to the disciples and
said, “Take, eat; this is My body.”
Then HE took the cup, and gave
thanks, and gave it to them, saying,
“Drink from it… For this is
My blood of the new covenant,
which is shed for many for the remission
of sins.”
Christ left Heaven to become a
human, so HE could live the life
we live and die as a substitute for
our sin. Philippians 2:8 – HE humbled
Himself and became obedient
to the point of death, even
the death of the cross. It is easy to
forget what it cost Jesus. Salvation
is free, but it is not cheap; it cost
us nothing, but it cost Him everything.
Isaiah 52:14 – was marred
more than any man; HE was spit
upon, mocked, and beaten short of
death. Christ left Heaven to come
to Earth, because God so loved the
world HE gave… John 3:16.
Christ died a sacrificial death, who
knew no sin to be sin for us, that
we might become the righteousness
of God in Him (2 Corinthians
5:21). As Christians, we can now
stand right before God. Romans
5:8 – But God demonstrates His
own love toward us, in that while
we were still sinners, Christ died
for us. We who were already dead
in sin.
We are now under a new covenant;
the covenant of Grace.
Christ paid a debt HE did not owe
to pay the price, we could not pay.
As Christians we partake of the
Lord’s Supper, in remembrance of
ME – Second Corinthians 11:24-
