“Controlled by the Love of God” ~ II Corinthians 5:13-19

There’s a big difference in a life lived controlled by the love of God and a life lived striving to display the love of God. The big difference is the one providing the action. The first is being controlled by the power of God’s love living in you; the second is relying upon your own power.

Paul had come on the scene traveling and preaching, spreading the gospel. He experienced all sorts of difficulties, rejections, beatings, arrests, but he kept on going. Some people called him crazy for doing so. They thought he must be out of his mind for continuing his work (vs 13).

Like Paul, Christians will be misunderstood in the world today, even sometimes considered crazy. We will be criticized, we will be disliked, we will be rejected, and we will make people mad because we cannot accept the new normals of today.

Why persevere? Paul explains that we do it because the love of Christ controls us (vs. 14) so that we who live might not live for ourselves but for Him who died and rose again on our behalf (vs. 15).

In the love of Christ, we no longer see things the same way; we see people and circumstances through the eyes of Christ and God’s redeeming work (vs. 16).

Paul is explaining that the Christian life is driven, not by the person’s love of the Lord, but by the Christ-love that is now living in them. In vs 17, he says if we are in Christ, we are new creatures; the old has passed away, and the new has come.

How often, when things go sideways in our lives, do we ask God, “Why is this happening to me?” That is the response of someone whose life is being lived for self. Whereas the life controlled by Christ asks, “How, Lord, can my life glorify You through this?”

The Church must keep proclaiming the Truth because our Christ-instilled love for others demands we share the Good News of reconciliation between God and man through Jesus Christ (vs. 18-19). We are different from the world because we are being controlled by the love of Christ.

The choir special, “How Great is our God” was beautiful.

Bro. Bubba‘s message was.” Growing through Going”.

Matthew 28: 16-20.

We are expected to tell others about our God. These scriptures command us to be witnesses for Christ. Verse 19 says “ go”. In the original it actually means “as you are going”. If you notice, in conversations a person brings up, it is usually a subject about which they are passionate. We will talk about what is important to us. When our hearts are filled with Him, we will speak of Him.

1) Direction Matthew 28:19

Everywhere we go we should in someway share Jesus. It may be a word of praise, comfort, or something deeper. If someone is offended, it isn’t you that is offended, but the Holy Spirit. The mission field is everyone we meet who isn’t a Christian. It could be a telemarketer, someone in a checkout line, a waiter in a restaurant, or anyone, anywhere. It could be someone who really wants to know how to be saved, or you may be just planting a seed. The Holy Spirit will do the rest. We are just required to go and speak.

2) Injection. Matthew.28:19-20.

Often people don’t want you in their space speaking about Jesus. If they do get saved later, they will love you. We must speak if we are going to inject ourselves into other people’s lives.

3) Protection. Matthew28: 18, 20.

Even if you lose your life for Jesus, as many have done, you will be in the will of God. He who lives within us, is more powerful than all the world. The Holy Spirit gives us the power to witness.

Hebrews 11:1: Faith is the substance of things hoped for, the evidence of things not seen. It is important that we build our faith, so we can be strong. Hebrews 11, reminds us of faith lived out. But without faith, it is impossible to please Him… Faith is necessary to approach, know, even please God. Throughout Hebrews 11, we find witnesses of their faith in God. This is both inspiring as well as demanding of the way to walk. We begin with Enoch, who walked with God; Abraham, believing God no matter what, Joshua, using trumpets to bring down a wall and so many more … All of these are now in Heaven, cheering us on, encouraging us to walk in faith as well. And all these, having obtained a good testimony through faith, did not receive the promise, God having provided something better for us, that they should not be made perfect apart from us. – Hebrews 11:39-40. Their faith was fulfilled in Emmanuel – “God with us”.

As Christians, we have God with us. We, too, are to keep the faith … running the marathon, while focusing on the finish line >>> Heaven. Let us grow in the Lord. For many, by this time you ought to be teachers, you need someone to teach you. For everyone who partakes only of milk is unskilled in the word of righteousness, for he is a babe. But solid food belongs to those who are of full age … who by reason of use have their senses exercised to discern both good and evil – Hebrews 5:12-14. Let us grow in the LORD! Make Your life count for Jesus!
