“Confidence in the Working of Mercy”, Part III – 2nd Corinthians 4:16-5:1

Paul continues to encourage the Christians in Corinth, telling them that even when the most difficult of times come, we can trust in the Lord and His promises.

Verse 16 teaches that even though the Christian’s “outer” man (body) is decaying, our “inner” man (spirit) is being renewed. As time passes, our body weakens, but for the established Christian, the Spirit grows ever stronger. God is at work in us; He fulfills His promise to make us more like Jesus.

Verse 17 reveals that our momentary afflictions here on Earth produce in us a weight of eternal glory. As bad as life may be right now, it is light and momentary compared to the glorious future that awaits us for all eternity. We can face life’s difficulties with confidence and faith. God always honors His Word in ways we can’t even imagine.

Verse 18 reminds us that we live in the earthly realm now; the “seen” is what we know now. And it’s temporary. But the Christian can fully trust the unseen; we believe God for the eternal glory that awaits those whose faith rests in His Son, Christ Jesus.

Verse 5:1 tells us even when this old earthly tent (our body) is torn down, we’ll have a new building from God, an eternal dwelling in the heavens, not made by hands!

Those who trust in a trustworthy God can face any uncertainty with a bold confidence. Though the outer man is fading away, we don’t lose heart. Though the days are hard right now, we don’t lose heart. Though the fight to survive is real, we don’t lose heart.

For the best is yet to come. He promises. And God cannot lie.

Pastor Bubba Hoggatt

Jerry Mac led our music today as Phylis and Mike are still without electricity. He also brought our special music, the beautiful, “He Touched Me” for our special. Bro. Bubba‘s message today was, “Hellbound Without Him”. Jude.24,25. Jude is only one chapter, but it has powerful warnings about Satan. We cannot handle him without Christ. Then it ends with much praise.

1) Myth 1 God’s grace must blend with man’s goodness. Jude 24a. We often want others to see what we have accomplished. John 15:5 tells us that without Christ we can do nothing. No miracles were ever performed without God.

2) Myth 2. God‘s preeminence must blend with man’s power. Jude.24b. God brought the Israelites out of Egypt. Man was powerless. God doesn’t need Man to accomplish his purposes.

3). Myth 3. God‘s word must blend with man’s will. Jude.25a. God‘s truth is all that matters. We can accept his Word and come to God or not come at all. When we deviate from God’s truth, it isn’t truth at all.

4) Myth 4. God’s awesomeness must blend with Man’s ability. Jude.25b. What is man compared to God‘s greatness? It’s not even a spec on a spec. He knows all the stars by name. Many people think God needs us to accomplish His will. Only when we obey, do we please him. Nothing has shaken his throne. To Him all glory, majesty and power. Praise God!!

Psalm 139:1-14: It is not how we worship, but Who we worship. God is ‘Omniscient’; all Knowing. O Lord, You have searched me and known me. No sin is secret in Heaven. We can never fool God for HE knows our character – clean/ dirty; right/wrong; good/ bad. HE knows our thoughts — You understand my thought afar off. HE knows our conduct – and are acquainted with all my ways and our conversation – For there is not a word on my tongue, but behold, Lord, You know it altogether … such knowledge is too wonderful for me.

God is ‘Omnipresent’. God’s presence permeates His creation and HE loves us, anyway. Where can I go from Your Spirit? If I ascend into Heaven, You are there – experiencing God’s love and blessings; If I make my bed in Hell, You are there – experiencing God’s wrath and punishment. Romans 8:38,39 – nothing can separate us from the love of God. The darkness shall not hide from You … the darkness and the light are both alike to You. God is so high; you can’t get over Him, so low, you can’t get under Him; so wide, you can’t get around Him and so big, you can’t get away from Him. We have to deal with Him sooner or later! (Why not Today?)

God is Omnipotent; all Powerful. HE can do anything that does not contradict Who HE Is. For You formed my inward parts … I will praise You, for I am fearfully and wonderfully made… HE loved us so much, HE came as Jesus, died for our sins, went to Heaven, so that as Christians, we can one day be with Him.
