Rev. Hank Hamilton

Last week we spoke of kindness, service to others and Jordyn Moore. If you recall, Jordyn is a young autistic woman who, with the help of her parents, started a t-shirt business that carries a strong message – KINDNESS.

For a young lady who didn’t talk until she was six; being able to have a job where she does packaging, marketing videos and talks with coworkers regularly is stunning. Throughout her childhood, Jordyn had to overcome many challenges. As she approached high school graduation, her parents saw another hurdle on the horizon. Her parents recognized that there seemed to be little opportunity for an individual like Jordyn when she got out of school.” They wanted a meaningful life for their child, but worried about what jobs she could get. “And it was really keeping my husband and I up at night, like what was she going to do?” said her mom.

They came up with an idea; Jordyn’s Summer Shirt Project. They wanted it to have great meaning and that’s what lead them to the word kindness. Mrs. Moore said. “I originally started thinking of getting the world to be kinder to individuals with disabilities, but when I thought about it more, I was like, You know what? This world needs to be kinder to everyone.’”

The family’s original goal was to help the then-teenager do the best she could in learning life skills. Jordyn worked well in the family t-shirt business and when she graduated high school, she had the company waiting for her. At 25, the “summer shirt project” is no longer just a project – it is now Jordyn’s full-time job. Jackie Moore says her daughter’s earlier life had been one of talking only about her struggles. But now that Jordyn is a big part of her family’s business and people see her on all the social media platforms; people talk about what she can do

Just as we might wear tees with Bible verses on them to remind others that Jesus loves us; Jordyn reminds us and inspires us to BE Kind To EVERYONE with every shirt we might wear. Jordyn’s tees are not “Biblical”… and yet they are! Ephesians 4:32 Be kind to one another, tenderhearted, forgiving one another, as God in Christ forgave you.” 1 John 3:18 Little children, let us not love in word or talk but in deed (kindness) and in truth.”.

As much as we need positive influences in our lives, it is equally important for us to be a positive influence on others. We bear the responsibility to live out our faith genuinely and inspire others through kindness, compassion, and love. Colossians 3:12 “Therefore, as God’s chosen people, holy and dearly loved, clothe yourselves with compassion, kindness, humility, gentleness and patience.”
