Q: Pleasing to God? Our question from
last week. Wouldn’t the simplest way to
be — would be to imitate the life of His
son, Christ Jesus?
What would that look like? Maybe build
or renew a (our) relationship with Him.
Maybe we study scripture, seeing that
Jesus wants us to help, give and love
others as He did. When the spirit of Jesus
lives in us, it calls us to replace our
wants with His wants. It calls us to Not
be of this world… only in it (temporarily).
Romans 12:2 “Do not conform to
the pattern of this world, but be transformed
by the renewing of your mind”.
By this verse, we are encouraged to allow
God to transform our thinking from
wanting to do/covet worldly things into
truly wanting to have a servant’s heart
like Jesus’. It encourages do the humble
acts of charity, kindness, forgiveness
and service that we saw in our Lord and
Savior.
Ephesians 4:32 “Be kind and compassionate
to one another, forgiving each
other, just as in Christ God forgave you”.
Galatians 3:27 “For as many of you as
were baptized into Christ have put on
Christ.” When we are baptized, we are
one with Christ and we should take on
His characteristics, becoming “clothed”
in His righteousness. That would signify
a radical new identity. And if we live
this radical new identity; we will walk
the walk that Jesus exemplified. We
will become disciples of Jesus; and thus,
pleasing to God. 1 John 2:6 “Whoever
says he abides in him ought to walk in
the same way in which he walked.” Philippians
2:5-8 “In your lives you must
think and act like Christ Jesus… he humbled
himself and was fully obedient to
God, even when that caused his death—
death on a cross”.
Online, in a conversation about living
a Christian life, a lady said in the comment
section: “I long to see the image of
Christ looking back at me in the mirror.”
Can you imagine living such a righteous
life that our mirror’s reflection of our
essence is Jesus? Now, THAT would
surely be pleasing to God!!

Last week, we saw in Jonah Chapter 3
the wicked people of Nineveh repent
of their wrongdoings and turn to God.
They listened to the warnings from God
preached by Jonah, and God relented
from the disaster that He had threatened
them with.
When even one sinner turns to God
for salvation, Heaven rejoices. So you
would think that a prophet, a messenger
of God, would be overwhelmed with joy
and thanksgiving when an entire nation
repents and chooses God. Not so Jonah.
Chapter 4 reveals Jonah’s frustration
and anger at God for showing grace to
a people that he thought deserved destruction.
In his mind, his feelings are
justified. Jonah thinks that because he
was Jewish and chosen by God, he was
entitled to special favor from God. He
expects God’s gracious hand in his own
life, but resents God extending that same
hand of salvation to those he considers
unworthy.
It can be very hard at times to trust God
unconditionally, to have unwavering
faith. Something goes sideways in our
life, and suddenly our spiritual lip sticks
out. We pout. We may not confront God
like Jonah did, but we let Him know.
Our prayer life fades, Bible study stops,
church attendance declines.
Instead of trusting God, instead of letting
God be God, we can slip into the bondage
of anger and hatred. Like Jonah,
anger will rob us of the joy and contentment
intended for the Christian life.
But, praise God, like the people of
Nineveh, we can turn away from our
sins, turn back to God through Jesus
Christ His Son, and be embraced by the
open, forgiving arms of a loving Father.

morning in the uplifting “ What a day

“The Manifestation of Christ”. II Corinthians
5: 16-
- II Corinthians 5: 20 tells us we are
ambassadors for Christ. We should live
differently than the world around us.
When we die, this old house, (body),
will be gone, and we will have a new
glorious house (body). The judgment
of sins will be for the lost. We will be
rewarded for our obedience and actions
that were in His will.1) Change in Distinction.
II corinthians.5: 16. When we
are saved, our old self is changed and
becomes new. Our thoughts change. Our
desires change. We don’t see things the
way we used to Our attitude changes. We
don’t just see things for our own good,
but we care about others. We saw Christ
historically, now we see Him as our savior.
Others will see this change in the
way we live.2). Change by Deliverance.
II Corinthians 5: 17. Now, as we try to
live Godly lives, some desires leave easily.
Some don’t. We ask for forgiveness,
struggle and pray for deliverance from
these hard ones.
Then one day we realize He has delivered
us.All through our lives, God is
refining us.3) Change with Direction.II
Corinthians 5:
18.Hallelujah is a heavenly expression.
It is the same in every language. When
we have our new bodies and enter into
Heaven and His presence, we will have
this
joy. When we are saved, we can know
that this is our future for
eternity. Hallelujah!Our annual picnic
will be held October 19 at the Ouachita
River at the camp of Wes and April
Franklin. All are invited.Homecoming
will be October 5th. Dr. Marty Black,

Associate Pastor Stephen Murry
Matthew 5:21-26 – You have heard that
it was said … Jesus is clarifying what
was being taught, not contradicting the
Law. Cain killing Abel was the first sin.
Murder is an inward attitude, that can at
times result in an outward action. Ever
been angry enough to wish someone
were dead? Then you have murder in
your heart. Murder begins in the heart.
Murder can be more than actually taking
someone’s life. Revelation 3:23
– I am He who searches the minds and
hearts. Even when one is enraged at
someone, he has the heart of a murderer.
One can become angry enough to lead
them to using profanity, even though
they may later regret it. Matthew 12:26
tells us every idle word mankind may
speak; they will give account of it in
the day of judgment. It is important to
repent now, asking for forgiveness. Even
in raising one’s voice can affect others
around you. Yelling and cursing is degrading
to the one whom God created.
Verse 24 – First be reconciled to your
brother, and then come and offer your
gift. We cannot truly worship God in
Heaven, when we are not right with
those on earth. I Timothy 2:8 – I desire
therefore that the men pray everywhere,
lifting up holy hands, without
wrath and doubting.
Anger can be justified – righteous anger
i.e. when Jesus overturned the money
changers tables, when they misused
God’s house (John 2:15). We are commanded:
Be angry, and do not sin: do
not let the sun go down on your wrath –
Ephesians 4:26. Jesus paid the price for
our sin. We owe it to God to keep our
heart right with Him.
