Thanksgiving — IN JUNE??? Well,
on the Hallmark channel we have
Christmas in July movies. Stands to
reason (?) that we can have Thanksgiving
in June. We’re good with
that! Personally, we think that every
day should be a Thanksgiving Day.
How often are we so busy, worried,
etc, that we don’t make sure while
saying our prayers asking for help
or healing that we fail to be thankful
for the blessings given thus far
in our lives
Romans 1:21 “…because, although
they knew God, they did not glorify
Him as God, nor were thankful, but
became futile in their thoughts, and
their foolish hearts were darkened.”
Asking for God’s help with our family,
health, work situations is a good
thing, but we must be truly grateful
for the sacrifice Jesus made for us.
Grateful for knowing we have salvation
through Him… that we will
have an everlasting life through
Him. We must give thanks!
Timothy 4:4-5 “For everything God
created is good, and nothing is to be
rejected if it is received with thanksgiving,
because it is consecrated by
the word of God and prayer.”
We close out our most popular “marriage
month” with Philippians 4:6
Be anxious for nothing, but in everything
by prayer and supplication,
with thanksgiving, let your requests
be known to God; and the peace
of God, which surpasses all understanding,
will guard your hearts and
minds through Christ Jesus.

In Thessalonians 4:1-12, Paul instructs
the church on one of the
major problems in our culture today
- sexual immorality.
Paul tells us that sexual purity is the
expectation of God. And we understand
from Genesis that God created
sexual union for two primary
reasons.
First, the covenant bond of marriage
between a man and his wife is a picture
of the union of Christ and His
Church (bride). It is reflected in the
idea of becoming one flesh (eternal
union), and a blood covenant (Jesus’
blood).
Secondly, reproduction can only be
accomplished between male and female,
which is how a family begins.
The family dynamic of father, mother
and child is an important part of
human development. The family
union is vital to the existence of humanity.
When Paul speaks of sexual impurity,
he speaks in reference to God’s
position as found in God’s Word. It
is not hate speech, not homophobic,
not bigoted, not racist, not narrow-
minded, not ignorant or uneducated.
It is biblical.
We don’t get to define sexual immorality.
Sexual immorality is anything
that stands in opposition to
God’s created order as found in His
Word, which is truth.
It is any act, physical and/or within
the mind or heart, which is done
outside the bond of marriage, which
is between a man and his wife. Period.
Jesus taught that if you fantasize
about it, you are guilty as well.
In verse 4, Paul instructs us to take
control of our body and mind and
do not follow lustful passions. Our
sexual actions are not out of our
control. Paul notes that temptation
is real, and that a Christian can be
tempted, but you take control of
yourself. Our behavior should distinguish
Christians from the world.
Verse 6 classifies sexual immorality
as transgressing and defrauding
others. Non- marital sexual union
is an ungodly act, not a display of
love. This includes all non- marital
sexual unions: fornication, adultery,
premarital unions, homosexuality,
pornography, pedophilia, bestiality,
anything outside the husband and
wife relationship.
Verse 6 ends with a warning: Christ
Jesus, our righteous judge, is the
avenger of all these things, and He
will get the last word. Sexual impurity
is not what culture says is right
and wrong, not what Hollywood
displays as ok and normal, not what
a court decrees, or what your own
mind and heart feels is ok.
Verse 7 reminds us that God does
not call us to impurity, but to sanctification,
which is spiritual growth
throughout our lives to be more
Christ-like.
Verse 8 tells us that those who reject
sexual purity are rejecting God. You
can’t walk with the Lord and hold
hands with the world. We are called
to turn away from sin.
Our actions display our heart, for
from the heart come evil thoughts,
murder, adultery, and 0sexual immorality.
Stand upon the truth of God’s Word
in your home, and speak it into the
lives of your children and grandchildren.
In a world that says “anything
goes”, we need voices of truth.
The Word of God declares none are
too bad or too far away. Call upon
the name of the Lord. It’s never too
late to turn from sin and run to God.

John 6: Philip finds himself under
pressure – HE said to Philip,
“Where shall we buy bread, that
these may eat?” Pressure tests our
faith. (This is the only miracle mentioned
in all four Gospels.) They
had actually gone off to rest after
their mission trip and now thousands
showed up to see Jesus. And
after several hours, they needed
food. Philip calculated the money,
the lack of opportunity to get the
food, and the need. Andrew was
looking for food. They were calculating
without including Christ. As
the last resort, we too, will go to
Him in prayer. We forget that God
has provided time and time again.
With Him, all things are possible.
Pressure turns our attention to Jesus.
Anything transferred to Jesus can be
transformed by Jesus. One child offers
his lunch. The faith of this child
showed his focus on Christ, and
believing HE could perform a miracle.
We should never doubt what
God can do for HE is in the ‘miracle
business’; never deny what HE can
provide, for HE is the ‘multiplying’
business. When they had seen
the sign that Jesus did, said, “This
is truly the Prophet who is to come
into the world.”
Pressure teaches facts about Jesus.
John 6:35 – And Jesus said to
them, “I am the Bread of Life. He
who comes to Me shall never hunger,
and he who believes in Me shall
never thirst. They were searching
for food, yet did not realize Christ
satisfies our hunger, meets our
thirst, heals our hurts, and solves
our problems. When the pressure is
on, we should focus on God for HE
will supply all our needs.
