The month of May is behind us… as is

Memorial Day. The month of June is

upon us and is the busiest month for the

beginnings of “new lives” through mar-

riage. We pray that as busy as we all are;

that you paused long enough last Mon-

day to remember and honor our coun-

try’s fallen military members — those

who “gave all”.

While we go forth planning and cele-

brating let us remember them for more

than one day. Our hope & prayer for

all of the upcoming marriages is that

these unions, like our remembrances of

the fallen, will last a lifetime of days. If

we start our married lives with this one

verse in mind and if we live it every day

we’ll be off to great start. “Let all that

you do be done in love.”

1 Corinthians 16:14

In our marriages, we also need to be

intentional in putting & keeping Jesus

forefront in our lives. We often think

that marriage is a two person relationship

because God gave us each other for love

and support. Genesis 2:18-24 “Then the

Lord God said, “It is not good that the

man should be alone; I will make him a

helper fit for him.” But Jesus knew we

would need more than each other. John

14:26 “But the Helper, the Holy Spirit,

whom the Father will send in My name,

he will teach you all things and bring to

your remembrance all that I have said

to you.” If you are ever in doubt about

something or worried about anything in

your “new future”, study Jesus’ words

and listen for the Holy Spirit’s guidance.

Live by this “marriage motto”… Joshua

24:15 “But as for me and my household,

we will serve the Lord.” And Let this

be a reminder to be happy about the

adventure of marriage. “He who finds

a wife (or husband) finds a good thing

and obtains favor from the Lord.” Prov-

erbs 18:22 You’ve found your person &

that’s cause for celebration.

The letter of Thessalonians was written

by Paul after he sends Timothy to check

and see how they are doing after being

preached the gospel. Timothy returns

with good news, and Paul is overjoyed.

He had worried that the pressure from

the Jewish community would snuff out

their enthusiasm for the Lord.

Sadly, a lot of new Christians in places

that Paul had visited had succumbed to

persecution. Many walked away from

the Christian life. But not the Thessalo-

nians!

They continued to live their faith. They

continued to be the body of Christ. De-

spite affliction and the threats of prison,

and even death, they stood strong.

Paul knew persecution firsthand, having

been scourged five times with 39 lashes

as Jesus had been before His crucifixion.

Most of us will never have to endure

what Paul and the early Christians went

through. Things were so difficult that

Paul had no idea if he’d ever see his

Christian friends alive again! But he

lived with the joyful promise that he

would see them again when Christ re-

turns.

That is a promise that all who have ac-

cepted Jesus Christ as their Lord and

Savior can lay claim to. If you can’t

claim Jesus as yours, make it your ut-

most priority to talk to a Christian friend,

relative, co-worker, or pastor to find out

how to become a child of God. Your

eternity depends on it.

The entire Old Testament points to Je-

sus. The greatest example of this is the

story of Joseph. Joseph’s brothers were

jealous of him and sold him into slavery.

Like Jesus , he was rejected by his own.

All of Joseph’s life, God was with him.

After going through a series of hurtful

events, he became second in command

in all Egypt. There was a terrible fam-

ine that lasted for seven years. Joseph’s

brothers came from Canaan to buy grain

to keep from starving. Joseph revealed

himself to his brothers. When this hap-

pened, there were still five years left of

the famine. We don’t know how many

years nor days God will leave us here.

Bro. Bubba’s message was from Genesis

45. Joseph made promises to his family.

God makes promises to us. 1) The

Pardon Genesis 45:3-5. J o –

seph was in a position to do anything

to his brothers in retaliation. He chose

to pardon them. Jesus pardons our sins

for eternity when we accept Him as our

Savior. 2). The Prov-

idence. Genesis 45: 4,5,7. Matthew

11:20. God knew all our sins. He pro-

vided Jesus to sacrifice Himself to for-

give our sins. He worked through Jesus

to save His people from starvation.

3). The Presence. Genesis: 45: 6,7,11.

Hebrews: 13:5. Through all seasons of

life God is with us. He will never leave

us. We are obligated to reconcile and

make amends to those we have hurt.

God will give us the encourage to do

so. 4). The Peace Genesis 45: 5. Joseph

promised no retaliation. He gave his

family the best land in Egypt for them

to prosper and enjoy peace. God gives us

peace in all situations, if we are His. 5)

Posterity Genesis 45: 7. Romans : 8:17.

Joseph prepared a place in Goshen for

his family. God promises our future will

be spent living in bliss with Him, if we

repent of our sins and accept Him as our

Savior.

Text today was from Luke 24:38. “And

He said unto them, Why are ye trou-

bled? And why do thoughts arise in

your hearts?” Release all your cares

and doubts. Why are you troubled? God

is all knowing and all powerful. In the

days of Noah, there were only a tiny few

percentage of folks that were saved from

the flood. Today, there is also only a tiny

few folks that claimed to be saved. In

Matthew 24, the Bible says that “But as

the days of Noah were, so also will the

coming of the Son of Man be”. God has

spread His love by paying our sin debt.

It took Noah 100 years to build the ark.

However, the people did not receive the

message of God and died in their sin.

Today folks are doubting what God is

doing. They are not receiving God’s

warning or salvation. Folks need to

know whether they are saved – no won-

dering, doubting, hoping. While we are

here on this earth, our purpose is to allow

God’s love to shine through us. Now a

days, folks are saying: “if I get the time”,

“if I feel like it”, “if this, if that”, I’ll

come to church, do what God says to do.

We need to give ourselves to Him. The

more time we spend with God, the more

we get to know Him.

First Kings 19:1-8 – Then as he lay

and slept under a broom tree, suddenly

an angel touched him, and said to him,

“Arise and eat.” Many Americans suf-

fer depression. Here we see, Elijah was

depressed, largely because he had not

eaten or slept after his great battle. Mo-

ses – a patriarch (Numbers 11); Elijah

– a prophet (First Kings 19); Jonah – a

preacher (Jonah 4:1-3) were examples

of how Believers too can get depressed.

When one is depressed, they are not

alone. It affects them and those around

them. If you are feeling helpless or hope-

less, you may feel overwhelmed with

sadness, find it hard to get up, have a

loss of appetite, experience fatigue, lose

interest in life, etc. Elijah experienced

some of these; maybe you have as well.

Why do people get depressed? Physi-

cally, emotionally or mentally speaking:

chemical imbalance, reaction to stressful

situations, toxic things such as drinking

or drugs, and psychotic – mental break-

down. Biblically speaking: spiritual

weariness, workaholic, emotional lone-

liness due to health or death of love one

can affect our feelings. It can be the re-

sult of one’s on sinful desires. The heavi-

ness of sin often brings us back to God.

A way to overcome depression, as David

reminds us in Psalm 23, “Yea, though I

walk through the valley of the shadow of

death … You are with me … After God

provided rest and refreshment for Elijah,

he felt emotional renewal. God spoke to

Elijah, in a still small voice. Sometimes

we have to get still to hear God speak.

And the peace of God, which surpasses

all understanding, will guard your hearts

and minds through Christ Jesus – Philip-

pians 4:7.
