Acceptance. Are we good at it?

Jesus was. Jesus didn’t condone

all that everyone did; but He

accepted them (us) right where

they were – right where we are.

There was a caveat though.

“… Jesus said, “Neither do I

condemn you. Go, and sin any-

more.” John 8:11 Jesus also

said similar words to the man he

healed by the pool of Bethesda

in John 5:14, advising him to

“sin no more, lest something

worse befall you”.

Jesus expected them – expects us

– to follow His example of “be-

ing good & doing good”. We

are to glorify Him by loving our

neighbors, by helping others, by

meeting each other “where we

are” in our life journeys. We

are to lift each other up – en-

courage one another in secular

and spiritual matters. We cannot

successfully do that if we don’t

have accepting loving hearts.

Romans 15:7 “Therefore, accept

one another, just as Christ also

accepted us to the glory of God.”

We don’t have to agree with

everyone or condone what they

do to be able to accept them

with Christian hearts. Romans

14:1 “Accept the one whose

faith is weak, without quarrel-

ing over disputable matters.”

Sometimes, accepting others

means forgiving them for real

or perceived “wrongs”. Romans

14:13: Therefore let us not pass

judgment on one another any

longer, but rather decide never

to put a stumbling block or hin-

drance in the way of a brother.

Thessalonians 5:11 “Therefore

encourage one another and build

each other up…” Colossians

3:13 “Bear with each other and

forgive one another if any of you

has a grievance against some-

one. Forgive as the Lord forgave

you.”

“Finally, all of you, be like-mind-

ed, be sympathetic, love one

another, be compassionate and

humble.” 1 Peter 3:8

We sometimes wonder why

God allows tests and trials in

our lives. In Daniel 6:9 we read

where Darius signed the writing

and decree that he should be the

only one the people worshipped.

However, even though Dan-

iel knew the decree had been

signed, he went into his house,

opened the windows toward Je-

rusalem, and prayed, and gave

thanks before God as he always

had. We live in a time of trial

and tribulation in this fallen

world. Even those of strong

faith face times of trials of our

faith. God wants us to have

strong faith in Him, even if that

involves going through trials.

If God requires that of us, then

He will allow them even in the

strongest of faith. Daniel’s faith

was tested, but he came through

by faith in God. All the ungod-

ly leaders convinced the king to

test Daniel. They spied upon,

and found that Daniel chose to

keep his prayer life faithful. The

leaders went to the king and told

of Daniel’s disobedience. They

told the king to follow through

with the punishment. Daniel

was thrown into den of lions.

Many of God’s faithful follow-

ers throughout the Bible have

been shown to have great faith,

as well as many of the faithful

followers of God in this present

age. Do you have unshakeable

faith? Are you in a time of test-

ing of your faith? If you are,

don’t be afraid; God has planned

this very moment and He will

teach you how to trust Him

completely. The person with

unshakeable faith won’t judge

God by their feelings. Instead,

they believe and trust the Lord

through every step of life, know-

ing in the end, God’s plan will

end perfectly. Sometimes God

may require us to do something

that seems unreasonable from

our outlook. But from His out-

look, it will be in perfect align-

ment with His will and turn out

for our benefit. Therefore, open

your hearts to His love and give

Him the opportunity to prove

His faithfulness. That is what

Daniel did. What is the strength

of your faith? Do you believe

what He has promised? Do you

believe He has moved heaven

and earth for you? All you have

to do is move toward His bless-

ings.

We went to Bastrop to Bethany

for our evening worship time.

Enjoyed the singing and fellow-

ship. It is such a joy to be with

our Christian family and friends!

Associate Pastor Stephen Murry

First Corinthians 15 – But

now Christ is risen from the

dead, and has become the

‘firstfruits’ of those who

have fallen asleep. For since

by man came death, by Man

also came the resurrection of the

dead. On that great Resurrection

Morning, we will go ‘home’

with Christ, where Christians

will be together once again.

This is a guarantee, born-again

Believers in Christ have. The

Glory of the Resurrection is that

our bodies will be transformed

into new bodies. Now this I say,

brethren, that flesh and blood

cannot inherit the kingdom of

God; neither doth corruption

inherit incorruption. Behold, I

shew you a mystery; We shall

not all sleep, but we shall all

be changed … “Death is swal-

lowed up in victory.” “O Death,

where is your sting? O grave,

where is your victory?”

When we are gone, how will we

be remembered? We must pre-

pare to die, for we cannot escape

death. Christ requires Christians

to live for Him, no matter the

cost. Whoever wants to be my

disciple must deny themselves

and take up their cross and fol-

low me – Matthew 16:24.

In reflecting on Memorial Day

and those who gave their life for

our freedom, we are reminded

that others came behind the fall-

en dead in order to serve. “…

that we here highly resolve that

these dead shall not have died in

vain.” We, too, as Christians, are

called to take the place of those,

who have gone before us. Those

faithful Christians, who served;

however they were called to

serve. What about you? Are you

willing to take up the cross and

follow Christ Jesus … no turn-

ing back?
