Rev. Hank Hamilton

Q: Ever waited for/on some-

thing? – the birth of a child? –

a birthday party? – a good fish

fry? – a girl on prom night? – or

perhaps the vigil for a loved one

in the hospital?

Some are waits of joyous an-

ticipation… some are waits of

worry and sadness. “They say”

the wait is the hard part. During

these good waits, it’s not so bad.

But during the sad/worrisome

waits; we should remember

Psalm 27:14 “Wait for the Lord;

be strong and let your heart take

courage; wait for the Lord.”

For the ‘good waits’, we don’t

usually pray – or need to pray

– for strength or help. But for

the sad waits; we definitely do

pray and need to pray. Romans

8:25 states, “But if we hope for

what we do not yet see, we wait

for it with patience.” The verse

suggests that when we have

hope for something we don’t yet

have, we are encouraged to wait

patiently for it to be realized.

Isaiah 40:31 tells us that if we

wait for God – trust God; that

He will give us strength enough

to get through/get over/get be-

yond whatever the outcomes are

for our own unique situations.

Philippians 4:6 “Don’t be anx-

ious about anything, but to in-

stead bring every request to God

through prayer and with thanks-

giving.”

So, don’t give up on God… wait

for Him and His answers to our

prayers. Seek Him in the wait-

ing. Lamentations 3:25 says,

“The Lord is good to those who

wait for him, to the soul who

seeks him.”

Continuing our study of I Thes-

salonians, we are in Chapter

2, vs. 1-11. In the first chapter,

Paul had noted the great change

in the lives of the new believers

in Thessalonica as a result of the

Holy Spirit in their lives.

They were imitators of Christ,

an example to other believers.

They shared the gospel wher-

ever they went, leaving behind

former idols. They were serving

the one true living God, waiting

for the return of His Son, Jesus,

Who rescues believers from the

wrath to come.

Paul tells them you have per-

sonally seen and are the living

proof of the WHY we have such

boldness in sharing the Gospel

message of Christ’s life, death,

and resurrection. It is the power

of the Holy Spirit!

Even with the threats of phys-

ical harm and imprisonment,

Paul and his fellow missionaries

counted the cost, and knew that

spreading the gospel unto the

salvation of eternal souls was

worth more than their discom-

fort.

What is a human soul worth to

us? We worry so much about

what others think of us, about

impressing people. In reality, we

need to live our lives for an au-

dience of one – God the Father.

Jesus said, “For I have come

down from Heaven, not to do

My own Will, but the will of

Him who sent me.” – John 6:38.

How much do we care about

the salvation of others? It’s not

measured in a feeling. Our care

is measured in our boldness, fu-

eled by the Holy Spirit, in shar-

ing the Gospel of Jesus.
