The Linville Firetower Road bridge, closed about two weeks ago, will remain closed for the foreseable future. The DOTD delivered the closure notice, along with images of deteriorating pylons like the one at left, to the Union Parish Police Jury this week, and the repairs necessary to reopen the bridge are extensive. Major repairs were made to the bridge in 2016, including the replacement of several pylons, but despite that effort, DOTD discovered multiple new cracks in the bridge supports. The cost of the repairs will fall on the parish, although the Police Jury has indicated that they will attempt to procure funds for the repairs from the state. The jury cannot estimate the cost of the repairs until engineers complete their assessment.
