In a world filled with daily stress, uncertainty, and grief, where can we find true hope? That was the heart of Sunday’s message at First Baptist Church, where the congregation gathered to examine Paul’s encouraging words in 1 Corinthians 15:57–58.

Bro. James David Miller opened with a reminder that believers are not promised a life free of hardship, but they are promised ultimate victory.

Drawing from verse 57—“But thanks be to God, who gives us the victory through our Lord Jesus Christ”—the sermon emphasized that Christian victory is not something earned through human effort or willpower. Instead, it is a free gift secured through the resurrection of Jesus Christ over sin and death.

Because Christ has already won the ultimate battle, believers can face life’s daily trials with assurance rather than despair.

Transitioning to verse 58, the message shifted from heavenly hope to practical daily living.

The Apostle Paul instructs believers to be “steadfast, immovable, always abounding in the work of the Lord.”

Bro. Miller highlighted three key takeaways:

Steadfastness: Standing firm in our faith even when culture or circumstances shift.

Active Engagement: Faith is not passive; we are called to serve our church, our neighbors and our community generously.

Lasting Impact: The promise that labor done in faith is never in vain.

No effort made in love, kindness, or service to God is ever wasted. Even in routine or challenging moments, faith gives everyday actions eternal value, anchoring our lives with unshakeable purpose and hope.

How Did We Get Where We Are? Genesis 3

Romans 5:12–God made the world perfect. God gave man knowledge and free choice. Romans 8:22–All of creation groaned when Adam and Eve sinned.

The Savior– Our Solution For Sin – Genesis 3:21

The lust of the eyes, lust of the flesh, and the pride of life, these are the basis of all sin. The first blood of any kind that was shed was in the Bible was when God killed animals for their skins in order for Adam and Eve to have something to cover themselves with. This was a physical covering. This is a picture of Jesus’ blood being shed to provide Spiritual covering of our sins.

Adam and Eve were created innocent, but made the choice to sin by eating of the tree of the Knowledge of Good and Evil in the Garden of Eden. After Adam and Eve, everyone is born a sinner. Isaiah 64:6 says “our righteousnesses are as filthy rags” to God. For each person, at the age of accountability, when they sin, that sin is a transgression against Almighty God.

1 Corinthians 15:45-48. The First Adam, the man God created was a natural being. The second Adam was Jesus and He represents our Spiritual being.

The Spirit–Our Solution For Service – John 14:15-21

God’s Spirit leads us into service to and for Him. God is our Comforter, Intercessor, Consoler, and Advocate. Without faith it is impossible to please God. Without our faith and belief in Jesus Christ as our Savior and God it is impossible to please Him.

The Sovereign God – Our Solution For Security – 1 Corinthians 5:1-8

As Christians we can know that we have eternal life with God in heaven when we die.

First Peter 3:18-22 – God has great patience; HE is longsuffering. Otherwise, we would have been cast into Hell a long time ago. God’s patience has been seen throughout the Bible i.e. the Lord God, merciful and gracious, longsuffering, and abounding in goodness and truth… – Exodus 34:6; But You, O Lord …are longsuffering and abundant in mercy and truth — Psalm 86:15. Once the Divine longsuffering waited in the days of Noah, while the ark was being prepared, in which a few, that is, eight souls, were saved through water. Noah built the ark, but nothing would happen, until Methuselah died at the age of 969 years. God was patiently waiting the completion, allowing people a chance to repent of their sins. And still, they would not repent.

Today, God is still patiently waiting for as many who will, to call on Him for salvation. HE is patiently waiting for His children to serve Him. His grace is stronger than our weakness. Thank you, Lord, that You are a God of ‘second-chances’.

But know, The Lord is not slack concerning His promise, as some count slackness, but is longsuffering toward us, not willing that any should perish but that all should come to repentance – First Peter 3:9. One day HE will come to take His children Home. Then it will be too late for those who have yet to except His saving grace. They will be left behind. When God calls you, receive him into your heart today. Or you may be – one day too late!
