To the Editor:
I am writing to express my concern about Lewis Jones’ handling of the Louisiana Tech stabbing prosecution and what that record means for voters considering his candidacy for district judge.
On November 13, 2023, four women were brutally attacked with a knife on the campus of Louisiana Tech. One died; two were critically injured and hospitalized; the fourth was wounded but not hospitalized.
The attorney prosecuting the case was Lewis Jones, Lincoln Parish Chief Felony Prosecutor. Under Mr. Jones, the case languished for more than two years before he was replaced by another attorney.
The state Constitution gives victims the right to be informed of, present at and heard at critical stages of criminal proceedings, and “the right to confer with the prosecution prior to final disposition of the case,” and at least one of the stabbing victims registered to receive such notices.
