Foster Campbell honored for 50 years of public service
SHREVEPORT, La. (KSLA) – Former state senator and current Louisiana Public Service Commissioner Foster Campbell was honored for 50 years of public service to the state of Louisiana.
Campbell’s career in public service began in 1976 when he was elected to the Louisiana Senate at 29 years old. He served in the Legislature for 26 years before becoming northwest Louisiana’s public service commissioner.
Among his achievements, Campbell said he is most proud of the mark he left on education funding across Louisiana.
“When I passed a billion dollars for all the schools and their trust fund, the LEAF fund, L-E-A-F, Louisiana Educational Excellence Fund. I’m proud of that because it shows how the money can be spent. You can’t spend it on football, baseball, or basketball. It has to be spent in the classroom. I’m very proud of that,” Campbell said.
