The Positive Attributes of a Good Paved Road

By: Tuffy Fields

I have been very fortunate in my life. I
was trained as a heavy equipment operator in
the Naval Construction Forces; the Seabees.
Then I worked overseas for sixteen years.
During these times I saw road construction
at it’s best. Last week I observed
the Union Parish Police Jury
utilizing some pretty unique pieces of
equipment that put down a maintenance
road that was second to none.
It was beautiful and the time to install
was minimal; great job.
A wellconstructed paved road
is one of the most fundamental elements
of modern infrastructure,
shaping economic activity, public safety, and
community connectivity. Its positive attributes
arise from engineering principles that
ensure strength, durability, and reliable performance
under varying environmental and
traffic conditions. When these attributes are
present, a paved road becomes not only a
transportation corridor but a longterm public
asset.
