Help, I’m turning into my parents

By: Sallie Rose Hollis

Parents’ Day was Sunday.

It’s been around since 1994, when Congress unanimously passed “The Parents’ Day Resolution,” establishing the fourth Sunday of July as a perennial day of commemoration. Through all those years, I’ve mostly been ignorant of it.

Even without my help, though, on that day each year, Americans have recognized outstanding parents, celebrated the teamwork in raising children, and supported the role of parental guidance in building a strong, stable society.

For this reason – and several others, as you will see – the song “Help, I’m Turning into My Parents” has been on my mind lately. My former chorus sang this song several years ago, and I’ve never forgotten the concept.
