Social media is a transformational change for the world. It allows a person to instantly communicate to a large number of humans instantly. This is a great achievement if the innovation is used with intelligence and without bias and with maturity. Unfortunately, we find in many ways that this is not what happens.
Social media allows an individual to comment on his or her fellow man and remark without impunity. I was once told that I would someday discover that it is easier to be a critic than an author. It is easier to sit back and criticize and defame an individual than it is to get out and try to help your fellow man. It is easier to sit behind a computer screen and analyze someone’s failure than it is to try to be a problem solver and get up and do what’s right.
One of my favorite presidents is Theodore (Teddy) Roosevelt. He had a very illustrious career before becoming President to include cleaning up the New York City police department, appointed as the Under Secretary of the Navy, elected as the Governor of New York, being a rancher and founder and commander of the First Volunteer Calvary during the Spanish American War. The calvary unit is better known as the Rough Riders and it was during his attack of the San Juan Heights that he was awarded the Congressional Medal of Honor. Years later he would also be awarded the Nobel Peace Prize, the only American to have won both awards as well as being elected president.
