Daddy was brilliant… I was fortunate

By: Jim Brown

With Father’s Day approaching, I find myself thinking about Daddy.

Over the decades, I’ve heard many people describe him as the smartest person they ever knew. I still hear those compliments today, even though he’s been gone for 40 years. Unfortunately, at times in my life I may not have done much to uphold the family reputation in that realm.

In fact, when I look back, I can think of several occasions when I made decisions so spectacularly unwise that they seem almost deserving of recognition. Not the kind that comes with a trophy or a plaque, mind you. More the kind that causes people to shake their heads and ask, “What were you thinking?”

Let’s reminisce a bit and see what we find. Who knows? Maybe you’ve got some “family secrets” like this, too.
