Rev. Hank Hamilton
This last week, we honored those brave men and women who have died in service to our country on Memorial Day, Monday, May 25th, 2026. To them and their families, we say Thank You.
This last week, we also learned of a recent “civilian” death. The passing of NASCAR driver, Kyle Busch. Both of these occasions should remind us of the fragility of life-on-earth. Acts 1:7 Jesus replied, “It is not for you to know times or seasons that the Father has fixed by His own authority.”
“Blessed are those who mourn, for they will be comforted.” – Matthew 5:4
Psalm 39:4 “Lord, remind me how brief my time on earth will be. Remind me that my days are numbered, how fleeting my life is.” James 4:14 “You do not know what will happen tomorrow. For what is your life? It is even a vapor that appears for a little time and then vanishes away.” Psalm 90:12 “Teach us to realize the brevity of life, so that we may grow in wisdom.”
As Jesus said, Matthew 24:36–44 “But concerning that day and hour no one knows, not even the angels of heaven, nor the Son, but the Father only. For as were the days of Noah, so will be the coming of the Son of Man.
For as in those days before the flood they were eating and drinking, marrying and giving in marriage, until the day when Noah entered the ark, and they were unaware until the flood came and swept them all away, so will be the coming of the Son of Man.
Then two men will be in the field; one will be taken and one left. Two women will be grinding at the mill; one will be taken and one left. Therefore, stay awake, for you do not know on what day your Lord is coming.
But understand this: If the owner of the house had known at what time of night the thief was coming, he would have kept watch and would not have let his house be broken into.
Therefore you also must be ready, for the Son of Man is coming at an hour you do not expect.”
HEBREWS 11:1 “Now faith is confidence in what we hope for and assurance about what we do not see.” JAMES 1:5 “If any of you lacks wisdom, you should ask God, who gives generously to all without finding fault, and it will be given to you.” Ephesians 2:8-9 “For by grace you have been saved through faith (in Christ Jesus), and that not of yourselves; it is the gift of God.”
Hebrews 9:28 So Christ, having been offered once to bear the sins of many, will appear a second time, not to deal with sin but to save those who are eagerly waiting for him.

Most of us want to live an impactful life. In Thessalonians 2:7-14, Paul lays out his desire for each of the believers in the church in Thessalonica. He says I want you to walk worthy of the God who called you (vs. 12).
That is the desire of every pastor for his church and of every Christian parent for their children. And it should be the desire of all believers for one another and for ourselves.
Salvation begins with God calling us. He initiates our surrender to Him. If you are saved, it’s because He called you. You didn’t choose Him; He called you to Himself. Paul points out that we are eternally indebted to God for our salvation.
God calls us to His glory, not to be like the unsaved world, but to exhibit the glory of the redeeming work of God in our lives. Church, can that be said of us?
The Christian life is to be an active and involved life. We are to have a sacrificial love for others, a heart for them to know God, living a life that exemplifies the life of Christ to the best of our ability.
Walking worthy of our calling involves putting others before self. We step into sometimes difficult situations because we love unconditionally. We swallow our hurts and our pride and understand that God has called us into His Kingdom and His glory.
We love when it is hard; forgive when others won’t; restore when others walk away. This is the life of Christ.
This selfless walk and unconditional love doesn’t happen simply because we want it to. The Word of God performs this work in our lives (vs. 13). It’s a God thing!
Reading and studying the Bible, God’s Word, will help us grow in our walk as a Christian. Our children and grandchildren need to see and hear us engaging in Bible study and worship. It is vital to immerse ourselves in the Word of God for it to perform its mighty work in us.

Our choir special was the very patriotic, “My Country ‘Tis of Thee”.
Bro. Bubba‘s message “From One Generation to the Next” was from Ecclesiastes, Deuteronomy, and John. The freedoms we have in our country were paid for by the lives of many patriots. We must teach the next generation these truths. Our freedom of religion, speech, press, and our protection , plus many more would not be, but for the shed blood of American patriots.
Recollect Sacrifice.
Ecclesiastes 1: 4. 9/11 is burned into most of our memories. It is our responsibility to teach the next generations. School, church, but mostly parents have this responsibility. We were all born into this free land of plenty. Deuteronomy 6:9 tells how to pass on the legacy of days past.
Restore Safeguards
Prior warriors, teachers, and other leaders in our churches pass on. It is up to us to step up and continue the work they started for the Lord. Soldiers are still giving their lives for our freedom. We must step up to support and honor them.
Recognizing Servanthood.
John.15: 13,14. When one joins the military, he becomes a servant. We all need to remember and honor our military through special days, memorials, etc. When we see ones that are in the military, let them know they are appreciated. Only Jesus Christ gave us eternal freedom. To be a friend of Jesus, keep His commandments.

MARK 14:3-9 – REMEMBER! Throughout the Bible, we are told to “remember”. One such occurrence happened in Bethany at the house of Simon the leper… as HE sat at the table, a woman – Mary, John 12:1-8 tells us – came having an alabaster flask of very costly oil of spikenard. Then she broke the flask and poured it on His head. But there were some, who were indignant among themselves, and said, “Why was this fragrant oil wasted? … Jesus said, “Let her alone. Why do you trouble her? She has done a good work for Me…
Jesus saw the sincerity of her heart. Mary was found at the feet of Jesus, soaking in all that HE said while visiting with them in the home of Lazarus. She appears to have understood more than most, since Jesus states – She has come beforehand to anoint My body for burial. John 12:3b – And the house was filled with the fragrance of the oil, causing all to receive a blessing. Whether Mary was grateful for something Jesus had done, or maybe the Holy Spirit helped her understand the sacrifice Jesus would soon make, she gave ‘it all’ to Him.
What has God done for you? What have “you” done for Him? Forgetting all who were present, Mary, through the act of anointing Jesus, performed an act of worship. Assuredly, I say to you, wherever this gospel is preached in the whole world, what this woman has done will also be told as a memorial to her.
Memorial Day is a day we “remember” those who gave their life, that we may be free. Our “Thanks!” to the families of those brave soldiers.
