Question: Ever had a friend? A really good friend? Friends are with us the best of times… and friends can carry us through the hardest times of our lives.
You’ve Got a Friend – Carole King, 1969
When you’re down and troubled And you need some lovin’ care And nothin’, nothin’ is goin’ right Close your eyes and think of me And soon I will be there To brighten up even your darkest night You just call out my name And you know wherever I am I’ll come runnin’ To see you again Winter, spring, summer or fall All you have to do is call And I’ll be there You’ve got a friend
Ms. King’s song was written very recently as time is measured (1969). But, the Bible has been telling us for far longer than the 2026 years since Jesus’ birth that we have a Friend. That God is our Best Friend… and His Son, Christ Jesus is also our Best Friend… and that their emissary, The Holy Spirit is a Best Friend, too. “And I will ask the Father, and he will give you another Helper, to be with you forever.” John 14:16
Forever is a long time. We often talk about having a forever friend and so did God “But the steadfast love of the Lord is from everlasting to everlasting on those who fear (respect, obey & love) Him.” Psalm 103:17 “Jesus Christ is the same yesterday and today and forever.” Hebrews 13:8
The same can be said of our true earthly friends. Proverbs 17:17 “A friend loves at all times…” Proverbs 18:24 “Friends come and friends go, but a true friend sticks by you like family.” Friends can bring comfort and happy memory smiles to the worst of times. God, too, brings us comfort, peace and joy, if we let Him in. 2 Corinthians 1:3-4 “Praise be to the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, the Father of compassion and the God of all comfort, who comforts us in all our troubles…”
Psalm 103:2-3 “Praise the Lord, my soul, and forget not all His benefits who forgives all your sins and heals all your diseases…” Sometimes that healing is not the physical kind; meant to keep our loved ones here on earth with us a little while longer; but is the divine, total and complete healing that only Jesus and Heaven can give. This healing is everlasting, happy and peaceful.
Psalm 147:3 Take heart family and friends; “He heals the brokenhearted and binds up their wounds.” Matthew 5:4 “Blessed are those who mourn, for they will be comforted.”
“Blessed is the one who perseveres under trial because, having stood the test, that person will receive the crown of life that the Lord has promised to those who love Him.” James 1:12
“Jesus’ friendship is not passive (and neither should ours be); it is active, guiding, and supportive. He walks alongside believers, offering comfort, wisdom, and encouragement through life’s challenges. This friendship invites believers to approach Him authentically, sharing joys and sorrows without fear or pretense. It also calls for a response — living out faith, loving others, and reflecting His selfless example in (our) daily life.” www.biblestudyforyou.com

One of the terms that is used to describe our church is “evangelical.” We believe and focus on evangelism, or making disciples, by spreading the good news of Christ’s birth, life, death and resurrection to save us from our sins. We may not be able to leave home and travel the world, but our mission is to share the gospel of Jesus.
There are three practical steps to being more evangelistic in our everyday lives. We can do that by looking at Paul and Barnabas’s approach as detailed in Acts 13.
They were intentional in their approach. Led by the Holy Spirit, they strategically planned their efforts. They planned to be where they knew there would be people to engage.
As a church, we plan events that are intended for evangelism. As individuals, we can’t always do this. But we can keep a list of people to pray for who we know are not Christians. We can make an effort to spend time with them with the express purpose of sharing the gospel with them.
The early apostles were opportunistic, always praying for and taking advantage of any opportunity that presented itself. We are to pray specifically for God to open a door for us to share the gospel. Be assured that He will honor those prayers.
Lastly, Paul focused on Jesus. He didn’t tell the unsaved the story of his life, although that’s ok if it leads to the sharing of Jesus. He didn’t invite them to church or tell them how much better life will be after being baptized. He pointed to Jesus.
A gospel presentation is not about me and you. It is simply about the truth of God’s Word, lifting up and pointing to Jesus. It’s about trusting the Holy Spirit to be at work in another’s life at the right place and the right time.

Pastor Bubba Hoggatt
Bro. Bubba Hoggatt preached the sermon entitled “The Great Inquisition” with the scripture references of Matthew 19:4 and John 8:46.
The Inquisition of the Opposition: Matthew 19:3,4 and John 8:13 .Jesus gave simple instructions and directions on how we are to live. Our United States Constitution also gave simple directions and instructions as to the rules of our Republic. The rules in the Bible were and have been complicated by men and so also has the United States Constitution. Opposition to God’s Word is heard everyday and in all parts of life. In Corinthians the Bible states, ‘Satan has blinded the minds of those who have rejected the Word of God’. God manifests Himself and His truth to everyone whether by nature or through books, other media, other people or numerous other methods.
The Inquisition of the Opportunity: Matthew 12:25, Luke 6:8 and John 2:23-25 all tell us that the Pharisees and others tried to discredit Jesus. They also tell us that Jesus knew all their thoughts and motives of their minds and hearts. Matthew 19:2 and John 8:2 also affirm this and that people followed him just for the physical things they might receive from Him such as food and healing of their body. Jesus still knows our hearts and minds.
III.Inquisition of the Offspring: Romans 8:14-17 tells us if we are true Christians that we are Children of God. If we are the offspring of God who believe in God and in God’s Word we should do God’s Word. The Bible says ‘Did you not hear God’s Word, did you not read God’s Word, do you not believe God’s Word? If we know and believe God’s Word but do not obey it then possibly we love the chastisement He will bring upon us, which does not seem likely. Or we may be saying we believe God’s Word but we really do not believe it. Or possibly we just believe it is a lie. Reasons to read and learn the Bible are because God wrote it, God said read it and learn it, it makes us wise, it keeps us closer to God and His plan for us and it can only be done while we are alive.

Matthew 24 – Many important events have happened throughout our lifetime, but the most important event to ever occur will be the return of our Lord Jesus Christ! . Do not be swayed by any man, who says they know when Christ will return. But of that day and hour no one knows, not even the angels of Heaven, but My Father only. The important thing is to be ready.
Revelation 3:3 – I will come upon you as a thief, and you will not know what hour I will come upon you. Then two men will be in the field: one will be taken and the other left. Two women will be grinding at the mill: one will be taken and the other left – Matthew 24: 40-41. Christ will remove His children, and take them to Heaven to keep them from the Tribulation to come.
What will be the signs according to Scripture? Spiritually there will be many false Messiahs; Nationally, nations will rise against nations; Personally, the love of many will wax cold, along with wars, famine, pestilences; Persecution of Christians, even some falling away from the church. All these are the beginning of sorrows.
The Gospel is to be preached throughout the world, and that is happening through missionaries, television, social media. When that happens – Jesus Christ Will Return. If you have not received Jesus Christ as your personal Savior, saving you from your sins, you will be left behind. It is a personal choice. Christ paid the cost for your sin on the cross at Calvary and then rose Victorious from the grave to rule Forever. The choice is yours! We pray you choose Jesus!
