Trying to talk over supper’s soundtrack

By: Sallie Rose Hollis

You might not have noticed it yet – or maybe you have, and it’s been bothering you.

Somewhere along the way, restaurants got loud.

Not just the natural clatter of dishes and conversation. That’s part of the charm. I’m talking about music turned up to a level that makes you lean forward, repeat yourself and maybe eventually give up trying to talk at all. My husband and I have encountered this in fast food places, casual restaurants and even those eateries that proudly describe themselves as “family-friendly.”
