Rev. Hank Hamilton

Question: Do you like books? Do you like History books? Biographies? Westerns? Military or Action books? Romance novels? The BIBLE???

We know a man who recently lost his beloved wife of over 50 years. She loved to read. As the family went through her personal things; one of the things they let go of was her books.

Talking with the husband a few months later; telling family stories, looking at photos, cooking her favorite Christmas recipes for Christmas dinner & sharing the sadness and the joy of having had this loving woman in their lives; the subject of books came up. Family had taken some, others were donated. Her husband kept only one book – his wife’s Bible!

He told us that this is the only book he reads. What an astounding revelation that was. Can you imagine that? Only one book in your house. Only one book you read? Makes you want to empty you own bookshelves of everything but the one book that truly matters – The Holy Bible.

Psalm 119:105 – «Your word is a lamp to my feet and a light to my path.»

2 Timothy 3:16-17 – «All Scripture is God-breathed and is useful for teaching, rebuking, correcting, and training in righteousness.»

Romans 15:4 – «For everything that was written in the past was written to teach us, so that through the endurance taught in the Scriptures and the encouragement they provide, we might have hope.»

Matthew 4:4 – «Man shall not live by bread alone, but by every word that comes from the mouth of God.»

Hebrews 4:12 – «For the word of God is alive and active. Sharper than any double-edged sword.»

“The Lord is close to the brokenhearted and saves those who are crushed in spirit.” Psalm 34:18 “Come to me, all you who are weary and burdened, and I will give you rest.” Matthew 11:28

Purity of Christian Ambassadors -II Corinthians 6:11-7:1

Today we see the Apostle Paul address the need for purity within the Christian’s life and in the Church. Like every good preacher, he loved the Church enough to speak the truth no matter what.

Vs. 14 is a repeat of Deuteronomy 22:10 – “Do not be bound together with unbelievers.” “Do not be unequally yoked.”

Our first thought may be concerning marriage, and this is certainly very important. Christian homes are built when both the husband and wife are following Christ, yet the Bible never encourages divorce.

No, Paul is not speaking to marriage here. False teachers and unbelievers had crept into the church and seemed to be taking over. It was important then, and it is equally vital now, to make sure that those who belong to the Church are truly OF the Church. If not, just like in marriage, problems will inevitably ensue.

In the Garden of Gethsemane, Jesus prayed for Believers, that we would be separate; that we would be in the world, but not of it (John 17:14-19). When we yoke ourselves to those in the world, it’s just a matter of time before the world stalls our progress.

Jesus prayed for us because he knew worldliness would be a constant struggle. Paul is saying the same thing, asking what agreement does the temple of God have with idols (vs. 16). Come out of their midst, separate yourselves; do not touch what is unclean (vs. 17).

Then Paul encourages us to cleanse ourselves from all defilements of the flesh and spirit, perfecting holiness in the fear of God (chap. 7: vs. 1).

Making adjustments in our life to be more Christ-like requires us to examine the people, activities and interests that occupy our time. Everything from TV shows to hobbies, from business relationships to friendships.

When we realize the negative impact the world is making on us, we will be more willing to make adjustments that promote godliness instead of compromise. And that is truly living the good life.

Please join our worship service every Sunday morning at 11:00, 400 No. Main. If you are unable to attend, go to our Facebook page, FBC Farmerville, or Roku for streamed services. Pastor, Bro. Kurt Auger; Minister of Music, Bro. Ronnie Parks.

Pastor Bubba Hoggatt

Our choir did a great job today, on the beautiful “Keep Me Safe Till the Storm Passes By”.

“Blind Eyes and Deaf Ears” was the title of Bro. Bubba’s message. Matthew 13:13. Jesus often taught in parables.

The reason, many could not listen with spiritual ears. They could relate better to the lessons taught in situations in which they were familiar. When he taught in spiritual language, they heard words, but did not understand. The disciples often ask why he taught like that. Matthew.13:11.

They had been given the ability to understand spiritual things. When we get saved, the Holy Spirit lives within us and we are able to understand spiritual truths. Many in the multitude, listening to Jesus, were very religious. They knew the law;they kept the law, but they were not really worshiping. The Holy Spirit will lead us to glorify Jesus. If we desire more knowledge, more will be given. We all need to look at our lives. Is there something displeasing to God that we have never tried to change? Do we have the desire to change? Many are religious, but not saved. We cannot do anything to please God before salvation. Make sure you have spiritual eyes, ears, and understanding.

We are blessed to be able to help spread the gospel through North America by supporting the Annie Armstrong Easter offering.

You can find an offering envelopes in the back of the pews.

We will be meeting for the 75th Annual Day of Prayer here, Thursday, May 7, at 12 PM.

Isaiah 51: Due to disobedience to God, the Jews were under Babylonian captivity for many years. However, God patiently reminded them of their heritage. How long will this captivity last? My salvation will be forever and My righteousness will not be abolished

God reminds us the battle is His. If God is for us, who can be against us? – Romans 8:31b. America has forgotten its heritage; many have turned their back on God. Once a Christian nation, we are now a ‘melting pot’ of religions; sadly, no longer having a relationship, but a religion. God has brought America through 9-1-1, and 2 pandemics, yet we still do not appreciate Him as we should.

The captive exile hastens, that he may be loosed… Christ’s death and resurrection set us free. Salvation is just the beginning of our walk with God. That he should not die in the pit… For the wages of sin is death, but the gift of God is eternal life in Christ Jesus our Lord – Romans 6:23. As Christians, Satan no longer has power over us. And that his bread should not fail. Jesus Christ is the ‘Bread of Life” – John 6:35. As Christians, we should be feeding on bread – God’s Word.

What has God given we as Christians, work to do with the time we have left? HE has blessed us with so much. What will we do for Him? We may not always see His plan at first; however, in His time we will. Though we may not be faithful; HE Is Faithful, still!
