Last week I wrote about the history of Iran; a country steeped in long term intellect and dominance. Refer to an Iranian as an Arab and you will quickly be informed that the person is not an Arab, he is a Persian. Even the Muslim religion has taken a twist when talking about Iran vs the other Gulf countries; I.e. Saudia Arabia, Bahrain, Kuwait, Dubai and other Muslim countries. Iran is Shia based while the other countries are predominately Sunni. Iran has the ability to be very progressive if the population was not being strangled by an aggressive political regime. Iran has produced such world figures as tennis great Andrea Agassim, actress Catherine Bell, the first female space tourist Anousheh Ansari and so many more. Our own local museum in Farmerville has paintings that were created by the Shah of Iran’s graphics designer, a man that had to flee Iran when the regime collapsed. It’s amazing what can happen when a person is allowed to have an open dialogue and is free to express his or her opinion and has an opportunity for liberty, everything that is missing in Iran today.
