Rev. Hank Hamilton

Hello friends. We’re 3 weeks into this new year and we hope you’re still filled with the excitement, anticipation and joy that the Christmas season brought us. But if not; how might we recapture that feeling – that outlook on life? With all that’s going on in the world, that recapturing might seem to be a monumental task. But No! An optimistic way to begin to brighten our lives (and maybe the world around us) would be to take a resolute stand to be kinder – to be more helpful.

In our lives there are people who may need us; but do we see that need? Be on the lookout in this new year to be of service to others. Reach out boldly. Jesus knows that we need Him and He know that we need each other to re-enforce and strengthen our resolve to be better today than we were yesterday. Ecclesiastes 4:9- 12 “Two are better than one, because they have a good return for their labor: If either of them falls down, one can help the other up. A cord of three strands is not quickly broken.” PHILIPPIANS 4:13 “I can do all things through Him who strengthens me.”

So, let us take these verses to heart and “… by love serve one another.” Galatians 5:13 “God is not unjust; He will not forget your work and the love you have shown Him as you have helped His people and continue to help them.” Hebrews 6:10

One person’s work that Jesus won’t forget and will surely reward is a young Autistic girl named Jordyn Moore. Jordyn, with the help of her Mom and Dad “sell tee-shirts”. But, what they’re actually selling in their mantra; Be Kind To Everyone. Like many parents of children with disabilities, her parents worried about what would happen when she aged out of school because the opportunities for adults with disabilities are limited. In 2018, Jordyn’s family shifted their focus from what was not available for Jordyn to creating something for her – giving her life skills. In doing so, they’ve reached millions of people with a shirt with the simple but powerful words: Be Kind to Everyone. Their message is a constant, gentle reminder to be the best of ourselves… Be Kind to others.

Can you imagine just how different – and Good! – the world would be if we lived the reminder on these shirts… if we were intentionally Kind Every Day? Being Kind naturally leads to being helpful and compassionate. We begin to understand, to mentor , to help and serve. God blesses us when we “do good”. Matthew 25:34-36 teaches us that acts of kindness towards others are ultimately acts of service to Jesus Himself, and they are rewarded with eternal life.

Galatians 6:9-10 , «Let us not grow weary in well-doing, for in due time we will reap a harvest if we do not give up. Therefore, as we have opportunity, let us do good to everyone…” Be Good – Do Good — Be Kind to Everyone

“Confidence in the Working of Mercy”, Part 2 – 2nd Corinthians 4:7-15

In verse 7, the Apostle Paul speaks of a treasure that we as Christians possess. This treasure consists of evidences which Paul has previously described that reveal Christ in our lives:

3:12 – the Hope in Christ that gives us boldness 3:17 – the Freedom that the Holy Spirit provides

3:18 – the Transformation that occurs because of Christ in us 4:1 – the Working of Mercy that allows us to not lose heart

4:2 – the Letting Go of the past, walking in Truth, living in the glory of Christ 4:3 – the Proclaiming of Jesus Christ as Lord

4:4 – the Shining of the knowledge of God’s glory in Christ

Paul is confident that the Gospel hasn’t only worked in his and Timothy’s lives, but is working in all Christians’ lives because of Christ in us.

Salvation isn’t merely a “ticket to Heaven;” it is the transforming work of God in each of our lives.

Paul points out in verse 7 that even though we have this supernatural work of God in us, we still exist in our natural bodies, these everyday, ordinary “clay pots.” We are nothing special in ourselves, but all the power and glory of Christ in us is due solely to the greatness and power of God.

We are afflicted, but not crushed; perplexed, but not dismayed; persecuted but not forsaken; struck down but not destroyed. We live in the dying of Jesus so that His life may be manifested in us. (Vs 8-11).

It is impossible to be like Christ – loving our enemy, forgiving those who “crucify” us, showing grace and mercy to the undeserving – under difficult circumstances, unless it is not we who live, but Christ in us.

Our greatest witness to the Gospel is the power of the Gospel in us. Our lives as Christians are all about God taking an ordinary vessel and displaying the power and glory of Christ through each of us.

We celebrated ”Men’s Day” in our church today. We had a packed, all men’s choir ages 20 years old through 93 years old. Great job. Mike Freeman shared his testimony in our morning service. After his salvation experience at age 23, he strived to be like Jesus. Through storms in his life, he grew. He is now serving as our minister of music. There was a fellowship meal following the morning service. John McPherson gave his testimony this evening. He told how the Lord saved him several years ago. He also told how he left the manufacturing lifestyle and found his way to Marion and First Baptist Church. He is now spending his life serving the Lord here. We are so thankful to have these Godly men and their families as part of our fellowship. There will be a baby shower for Sydney Akers, Sunday, February 8th, 2:00 PM here.

Matthew 7:15-23 – Beware of false prophets, who come to you in sheep’s clothing, but inwardly they are ravenous wolves… Satan attacks from the ‘inside’ – persecution; from the ‘outside’ – false professions, teaching, preaching. Satan is doing all he can to keep people from Jesus. BEWARE: Christians must protect themselves from ‘fake’ Christianity. Not everyone who says to Me, ‘Lord, Lord,’ shall enter the Kingdom of Heaven …

Satan himself transforms himself into an ‘angel of light’ – Second Corinthians 11:14. Even all preachers are not in it for the right reason. Ministers and even Professors damage the faith of those listening to them. Pay close attention to what is said. BE AWARE: A message may have just enough truth to camouflage lies. What is said, is not what was actually meant. Beloved, do not believe every spirit, but test the spirits, whether they are of God; because many false prophets have gone out into the world – First John 4:1. Discern messages on radio, television, internet … yes, even in Christian bookstores. What is produced is evidence of where the heart is for the ‘fruit’ discloses the ‘root’. Therefore, by their fruits you will know them.

Ones in the pew are not necessarily Christians, though they have been baptized, joined the church, go to Sunday School, or even preach. ‘Lord, Lord, have we not prophesied in Your name, cast out demons in Your name, and done many wonders in Your Name?’ And then I will declare to them, ‘I never knew you…’

True Christianity is obedience to God’s Will. One must have a personal relationship with Christ Jesus. Service is no substitute for salvation. One must be ‘born again’.
