Your Grace, Your Mercy, and Your Peace
Grace, mercy, and peace will be with us, from God the Father and from Jesus Christ the Father’s Son, in truth and love. 2 John 1:3
One of the fundamental and most fantastic truths of the Christian faith is that God gives to us what we do not deserve. As sinners, down to the very last man, woman, and child, we deserve death. And what does God grant us instead? “The free gift of God is eternal life in Christ Jesus our Lord” (Romans 6:23).
This reversal—God giving us what we do not deserve and withholding what we do deserve—is so precious that we have a special word for it: grace. By His grace, God gives the most beautiful gift of life to the least deserving.
And how is it that He can show us such grace, freeing us from sin and guilt and bringing us every benefit in Jesus Christ? Because of His mercy. It is God’s great mercy that inclines Him to give us what we don’t deserve— and by that mercy, He showers us with grace.
Flowing from such grace and mercy is a bounty of peace. Peace is the experience of those who have been reconciled to God, of those who are no longer alienated from Him but who now live in fellowship with Him and in community with other recipients of His favor. This peace is such an otherworldly experience of God’s grace and mercy that it “surpasses all understanding” Philippians 4:7.
In a world that can feel fraught with disappointment and danger and sometimes void of meaning and purpose, what more could we ask for than such supernatural grace, mercy, and peace? They are stable. They are durable. They are permanent. And God the Father is always pleased to dispense them generously to all who come to Him through His precious Son, Jesus Christ. If you are trusting Christ, grace, mercy, and peace will be with you. So, pause before moving on and let the meaning and magnitude of those three words sink in. God’s grace is yours, God’s mercy is yours, God’s peace is yours—all through Jesus, your Savior.

Our Bible passage today is II Corinthians 4:1-6, and it begins with the word “therefore”. Paul is reminding the believers in Corinth of the victory and freedom from the Old Testament covenant and law that believers enjoy.
We can have confidence in the new covenant of Mercy & Grace written in Christ’s blood. In Chapter 3:17-18, we saw that the Spirit of the Lord lives in us. In Him, there is liberty and freedom from striving. We are being transformed into the image of Christ, not conformed from the outside in, but transformed from within by His Holy Spirit.
Romans 12 speaks of being transformed by the renewing of our minds. Phillipians 4:8 tells us to set our minds on what is pure, lovely, excellent, of good report. God’s Word is Truth. Read your Bible. Expose yourself to Truth, and trust God to work in you.
Christians live under the new covenant of Grace as we received mercy. (Vs. 1). God withholds His wrath against us because Christ became the sacrifice for sin in our place! He died so we can live! He was judged and punished for us!
Paul had explained earlier the high cost of our salvation – the death of Jesus – gives us confidence in God’s Grace. Since we have received Mercy, we do not lose heart, because God is at work in us.
We can live free from shame. (Vs. 2) God has cleaned it all! The old man is dead and a new man lives. There is freedom in the New Covenant through Christ. Don’t live in the shame of the past! Let it go and live in God’s Grace! Let others see Jesus in your life.
Not the Laws of the Old Testament, not in manmade religious practices, but Christ living in you.
One of Paul’s greatest heartbreaks was people’s rejection of the Gospel. Some would listen, but never respond. They resented his message of Truth. Satan had blinded these unbelievers so they could not see the light of the Gospel. (Vs. 4.)
May that never be said of you. Yield yourself to God, the One Who will “shine in your heart to give the light of the knowledge of God’s glory in the face of Jesus Christ.” (Vs. 6.) Live in the sweet mercy of the Covenant of Grace through Jesus Christ our Lord.

Our choir did a wonderful job praising God with “How Great Thou Art”. Bro. Bubba’s message was “Basis of Judgement”.
The saved, will face a judgment, not for their sins, Jesus paid for those, but for the works and love we showed to each other. Jesus paid for the sins of the whole world, but some chose not to accept the gift and went to Hell.
We are judged for rewards. He gives us commands to follow in order to serve him. We spend a lot of effort and interest in our funds for retirement. How much do we spend on our eternal retirement? Luke 12: 48 tells us that some have more gifts, talents, and opportunities to serve God for his glory. More will be expected of them.
1) Obedience is not a Buffet.
John 10:26-30.
When we visit a buffet, there are things we like and some we don’t, so we leave those alone. The scripture is not a buffet. We can’t serve God by choosing only the things that interest us or we want to do. 2) Overcomers Inherit a Bounty. Matthew.5: 12. Rejoice! Great is our reward in heaven when we serve the Lord and keep his commandments to glorify him. Do our works in private, not for the glory of man. There will be no reward for those. Pray in private, not for our own glory or that of man. Who are you doing this for? Glory of God?

Hebrews 12:12-15 – Pursue peace with all people, and holiness, without which no one will see the Lord… Bitterness has caused damage in many areas of life. It begins with germination. The ‘seed’ is planted in the ‘soil’ of the heart, which leads to unforgiveness. One can even be bitter toward God, because of loss or disappointment in life. Maybe someone does one wrong, whether on accident or on purpose. Even Job asked, Teach me, and I will hold my tongue – Job 6:24. Pride is not worth one asking forgiveness, whether guilty or not.
The heart is the soil in which the hurt is harbored and hidden deep. Lest any root of bitterness springing up cause trouble. The root of any conflict will burrow beneath the surface. Though others may see it, most will not admit it is there. Some may come across as ones who need no one or nothing; eventually it will show. The fruit always comes out. It begins to take up one’s mind, controlling one’s thoughts and feelings. Those who will not release it, will become a slave to it.
Hatefulness and holiness cannot dwell together in the same heart. It will poison worship; paralyze work; pollute witness – If someone says, “I love God,” and hates his brother, he is a liar… (First John 4:20). Bitterness will sicken the body. The way to eradicate bitterness: Allow God to reveal it (Psalm 139:23); Allow Grace to remove it (Ephesians 4:23); Allow Good to replace it ( Pursue peace with all people, and holiness…) Forgiveness sets two free – the person and the one who wronged them. Allow the peace of God to pass over you today!
