When was Christmas

Over the last few weeks we took a look
at what life was like just before the birth
of Jesus. We looked at daily life and what
the journey to Bethlehem was like and the
arduous journey taken by the three
wise men. Much of our intellectual
journey was presented by the Bible
while much more was unearthed
and interpreted by the Biblical archaeologist.
Last week we actually
celebrated the birth of Christ,
Christmas; but how did we come to
embrace this date. Was it written
in scripture or was it passed down
from father to son to be repeated
around fires in the crisp cold winter nights
or was it a stone excavated and deciphered
at the hands of the archaeologist. In actuality,
none of the scenarios gave us the date
of December 25th as the birthday for Jesus.
